Just reading that shutting Parliament has not only stopped scrutinisation of the government over Brexit it’s also going to stop crucial bills in dealing with no deal being passed before October 31st. Boris the genius.

You don't think he knows that Macron, with the incentive of financial institutions moving into France, will block extension & renegotiation anyway?

Don’t be silly. I have it on good authority that the French will bend over backwards for us because they want to keep selling us wine and cheese. You and your project fear.

Raises a couple of immediate questions. The government were required to release all documents submitted to cabinet and / or committee. So either this is everything or they haven't complied. Neither of those options is good.

Also the document itself was previously leaked via the Times. The document released today has the same date but has been changed. Base scenario has becomes worst case planning assumptions. That's a huge difference, who made those changes?

If that is what you call them.

Don't see it as any different to half-baked conspiracy theories spouted about Brexit impact, wealthy Tories grabbing money etc though

The governments own suppressed report paints a bleak picture of a no deal Brexit, and look up how much hedge funds stand to gain in the event of that scenario.

Tit! That is a worst case scenario.

Said report does tend to blast the conspiracy theory that the govt was not preparing but merely sitting on their collective arse twiddling their thumbs though doesn't it?

But it's not a half baked theory is it? It's a genuine concern, albeit, one that may not come to fruition.

What about the money hedge funds are going to make in a no deal scenario? Again, you are trying to be disparaging by using the term conspiracy theory about money grabbing tories but many of them have positioned their interests to benefit from a no deal Brexit.

Mostly this preparation was done under the previous government.

Also the main criticism regarding twiddling of thumbs in reference to negotiating another deal rather than preparing for no deal as the government was telling everyone they were pulling out all the stops while in reality doing nothing.

It is difficult to keep up with the lies though.

No?

Do you literally believe every word proven liar Boris Johnson says? It’s been confirmed multiple times this isn’t worst case it’s most likely. You can literally compare the leaked version to this and they’ve just changed the title.

How are you so gullible?

The original report was base line scenario, the government had it changed to worse case scenario.

They can only treat you like a pleb if you’re compliant enough to behave like one.

The thing that blows my mind with all this is the way so many people switch from “you can’t trust politicians and government is useless” to believing every word that comes from the government’s mouth and demanding the biggest government project since the war be done immediately at any cost without any checks or balances.

If the government was prepared there would be mitigation against the risks, there isn't.

When something is leaked there is always a reason for it. And without knowing who leaked it we don't know the reasoning. Is it someone who is really concerned about our future or is it someone who is just desperate for us to remain.

It is easy to make an 'if' into a probability when leaking something. Just like those pushing for Brexit can make a probability into an 'if'.

And it is no secret that I don't trust any of them. What have any of them done to gain our trust? They have all gone against what they should be doing. So now we have reached the point where about half of the country will be unhappy whatever happens. But then the contradiction is that about half want this farce over with whatever way it happens.

And the worse thing is there seems to be nobody capable of sorting out this debacle.

Scale has nothing to do with it, it’s motive.

For instance to class someone who buys clothes to clothe themselves as a necessity but those clothes are made in a sweat shop where people work in miserable conditions for a pittance against someone who is clearly attempting to orchestrate a collapsing country out of greed is nonsense. Plus who’s profiteering from the sweatshops? It’s not the consumer.

Of course it is of concern. The point of doing a worst case scenario report is to be able to make plans on how to minimise the impact should it happen.

Can't see what is wrong with that. You say "may not come to fruition", I would say - in the unlikely event.

As you believe our economy will collapse post Brexit the hedge fund gains will be very short lived. And we will become a nation of shop keepers again, relying on modest bank loans.

Its not a worst case scenario report, I can't understand how you are struggling to comprehend that. You can literally look at the original version compared to the one published by the government and see where they have changed it to worst case without any of the contents changing.

Already made the point that it was originally base case scenario. Some people are happy to bury their heads in the sand. That’s before you even get into that government can’t make all the preparations as they’ve shut Parliament and Parliament can’t pass the bills that need passing either in time for a no deal brexit on the 31st of October or allowing enough time to implement them. Seems to me that a responsible government either would have left parliament open and postponed conference season or extends the brexit deadline and choose to do either or of its own free will..
