Today we needed a point and not lose the game. We exerted ourselves enough to try and win but as the game went on we took not risk, kept it tight, risked no injuries for the playoffs to come. Sensible game plan once we passed 60 minutes. Morecambe? Well risk a few breakaways at the start but as the game progressed a point was needed so 11 behind the ball and make sure you don't lose.
That's football tactics to a tee. had we gone gun ho we may well have left gaps and lost to a breakaway goal...not what we needed to do. We played within the boundaries of what was needed, no riak and got the point and a playoff. That was our right to do. it may have been a drag but we are in the playoffs, McNulty is injury free and we have a chance to get promoted. Take out the goals (and shots) at Cheltenham, the stats are pretty similar.
So if anything can be gleamed from this result, the attacking effort was there, if the finishing wasn't. And at 80 mins, with so much riding on the result, you're not going to want to go full-on and leave yourself open at the back.
