Baker Looking Forward To Next Season

Talking to the CT Baker said:

"I thought we played really well against Reading who are a top team who could be in the Premier League next season if they win the play-offs, but I thought we made them look ordinary and it was us who looked like the team pushing for the play-offs to be honest."

"I thought the fans were unbelievable, probably the best since I have been at the club and it is just a shame that we couldn't nick a goal for them in the second half. It was a great atmosphere and it felt like we had made the play-offs ourselves when we were walking round the pitch afterwards. I just feel sorry for the fans because I think they deserve that."

"The lads were buzzing when they came in afterwards and I think the fans are starting to appreciate that we are trying to play football the right way by keeping it on the floor, and hopefully next year we will continue to do that. We have played some top teams and made them look ordinary since Thorny has come in and I don't think many will fancy playing us next season playing like that."

"The club is the best it has been since I have been here and there is so much potential and that bodes well for the future."

Baker, for one, is trying to persuade the three players, Westwood, King and Gunnarsson to stay at the club. He said:

"It is no secret that they are three of our best players and in an ideal world we would keep all of them, but if we do lose them then hopefully the club will bring in players who are just as good because I want to make the play-offs next season.

"It is part of football but fingers crossed and no-one will be happier than me if they decide to stay. I'll be getting stuck into them this week making sure they get their contracts signed and having a bit of banter with them."

"I think all three love playing for Coventry and there is not one bad apple in the dressing room, and hopefully that will play a big part in them wanting to stay, and hopefully all the lads will want to stay together, but if they don't sign then we will have to deal with it."

If King does leave, many fans will be asking who is going to score the goals?, but Baker believes that the current strikers are capable of stepping into King's boots.

"It will be a big blow if Kingy goes because he's been fantastic but no-one is irreplaceable," he said. "We have got other good players like Freddy Eastwood who scores so many goals in training and maybe not had as much game time as he would like. But it would be a good incentive for him to step up to the plate and get a scoring run
going."

Baker also thinks that there are goals to be had from the midfield and that includes the often maligned David Bell.

"We both like playing for Thorny and the formation suits all of us. Belly has been a different player since the manager has come in and I saw an interview in the Telegraph with him where he said he has had a new lease of life under him, and I think that goes for all of us.

"We've got goals in us and the more we play the more we will get. We've had a few chances between us and once we get the first couple hopefully lots more will follow."

I agree with Baker on most point's made but find it hard to agree that Marlon King is replaceable.

No-one is irreplaceable. I have a sneaky feeling that Thorn's gonna turn Juke into a special player for us.
Work rate #1
Holding up the ball #1
and he's added scoring to his game now.
Everyone has gonna start somewhere. Maybe that somewhere is with us! :claping hands::claping hands::claping hands:

Good on him! Always like what Baker has to say in the media - seems a very level headed young man.

Hasn't done it this season but the style of play didn't help and being left out a lot. Get him a good pre-season and I think he'll be important for us next year. He was excellent against Reading and a few more months getting back used to this style is what he needs I think.

I love these column fillers in the Telegraph of which there will be many closed season. Usually consists of players on a rota basis building up the spin for the next year. I mean they are never going to have something running like "Baker says City have no chance" or "Bakers concerns for next season". Football season should run 12 months a year
