Yeah I know there's other threads on this but with stupid posts clogging up the front page calling for Nicks head etc. I thought why should I bother searching.

So back to the FOOTBALL, you know, what the forums for. Well anyone who isn't friends with Baker on Facebook, his post yesterday was "looking forward to a meeting today to see where I'm playing next season"......then a few hours later he posted again simply saying "Coventry" with a thumbs up,

So to me that ones a done deal, as I'm sure we all expected. Good player to have around the squad and he loves Cov so I'd welcome him back with open arms

If true I am pleased
We can sing a song about picking him up for free now off MK Dons
Like their song about us!!

When should we have Carl Baker day? I reckon 28th May every year based on this.
To be honest I'm glad he's back. His last season with us saw him covering for Christies shortcomings at full back way too often and to the detriment of his own game.

when he said he was looking forward to meeting his new clubs , he meant his new golf clubs and the thumbs up last night was because he was out on the pop in Coventry, hopefully he will sign he is settled here and both his lads enjoy there football here so here's to hoping

It's simple really. I don't get all this Baker knocking, or for that matter, the Baker love-ins either.

All I am interested in is what he can bring to the team NEXT season.

When he was good he was very good and when he was anonymous he was really anonymous.

If TM thinks he can do a job and he can contribute, then I say why not!

His seeming desire to play for us also has to be a positive. Too many players just come for the money. At least he seems to care and therefore you would expect a great attitude from him and 100% effort every week.

That's better than we've had from some players.

No doubt if it happens there will be a stack of people lamenting the decision and saying he's not that good, but as I say, all I am interested is what he can do for us next season if he signs.

Also, he's not 34 til December, so that's still quite young for us.

The new golf clubs thing was a piss take, a friend of mine who knows him better than me PM'd him and he confirmed. I think he's just being coy because he needs the club to announce anything not himself on social media

Personally I wouldn't sign him, but he is a good player and proven in this league. He is getting on a bit now and missed a large chunk of last season out injured.

If he does sign, I really hope that's the last 30+ year old player Mowbray signs this year, 3 golden oldies is more than enough.

Agree with that Stu.

I do miss his waving his arms at the ref every time something didn't go his way!

Yep, agree with that. I personally am not that fussed if he signs or not, but if he does it's not as if he is a bad player. Think even his detractors would say that.

Again maybe this is as much an influence in the dressing room kind of thing as anything else.

If he's back I won't be having a Carl Baker Day, but I will be rooting for him in a sky blue shirt and have my fingers crossed we can see more of the good performances he brought to the club on a number of occasions.

I would have Carl baker back, saw him many a time down the gym when he was injured last season training hard and just a friendly open guy. Agreed he isn't young but he won't be bullied and he cares. Can't moan too much about that.

I'm not one of these folk that befriends him or refers to him as "skipper" on Facebook (this is rather sickly!)

However, depending on who we get in and what not I wouldn't be adverse to having him and his experience at the club next year.

He may not be the best midfielder in the world but working with TM I am sure he can have a positive contribution to city next year.

I'm sure he'll be good for some of the younger players. I think the likes of Lawton can learn from him.

Glad if he came back because he has a bit more skill and puts in more effort that some....but why was he released/signed for MK in the first place?

Won't be on stupid wages so will be a good squad player. Loves our club too so will always give 100%. Good professional to have around a young squad also. Can't see why anyone would have a problem with this.

He will play the position of pantomime villain. Replacing Joe Cole as a hate figure for you to blame everything on.

Only joking He will be a creative CM for me.
I would prefer young whippets on the wing.
Baker can pick a pass and score goals from midfield

His heart is definately with City. And for someone who wasn't brought through the ranks, and had no links to us prior to his transfer, it is great to see.

Add to that, his kids are quite often showing Covnetry colours on his social media!

Sign him up I say. Even if he won't be first choice, he showed before he knows this league and looked half decent, probably why MK picked him up on a free.

One season is probably enough, so we won't have to worry about losing him after our promotion next year

The worst aspect of bakers game is his passing accuracy - it's very poor.

Exactly why people are taken in by that nonsense I can never fathom.

He will love any club that will offer him a contract - and there aren't going to be many takers.

If he cared so much why was he so lazy and appalling I'm his first two seasons.

Pressley forced him out. Or Pressley was forced to force him out due to wages.

And "hate in" begins.
Baker will need Bigi to sign so it's not all on him.

I was told by SMT it was purely SP's decision, purely to do with footballing reasons, nothing to do with wages.
If that's correct SP was well and truly nuts.

Yeah, I wasn't sure what one it was, but was definitely one of them two scenarios.

Saw him at Swindon away and he seemed down about what was happening. Didn't want to go.

Why is that hate? Perhaps it's peoples warped views that he is some kind of hero that grates. He's a professional footballer who was paid a lot of money at this club and for the majority of his time here failed to deliver.

Why fans seem to think we should be done kind of registered charity for former players who no one else wants is beyond me.

Its surely up to the manager where he plays. That's his role.

Yeah, but to be fair, 'the majority of his time here he failed to deliver ' is quite a way away from 'he was appalling.'

Find SBT a lot of the time is all about extremes. Baker wasn't very good when he first came, but appalling? Rather extreme I think.

He wasn't very good then he was. Can we please have less of the 'he was brilliant/he was appalling stuff?

Is there anyone else who thought he was appalling? He's a decent League One player and he will score goals. If he signs then great, if not that's fine too.

Too many extremes on here for my liking at times.

I'm pretty sure there is something in between brilliant and crap in Sky Blues Talk World. We just need to seek it out sometimes.

I would welcome baker back at Cov.
For the only reason that I believe he is a good player in league one who will help the team.
He has been good at MK and I believe under TM he would be a good addition to our team.

Don't generalise that everybody on here criticised him. A few did but most liked him.
We need to welcome him back as he is one of the pieces in TM jigsaw.
