The Great Freeze of 1963 in Coventry

No sporting fixtures for two months, car crashes and a city out of salt - this was the coldest winter in living memory

and yet we still got to school, snow down the tops of your wellies was no excuse. I remember watching the news and seeing helicopters dropping bales of hay for the sheep and cows in isolated areas, I was 9 and it felt like the end of the world. It was like it for months and iirc the snow didn't melt until the end of April...........................and they whinge about 1 inch of snow (at the most usually), nowadays.

Snowed every day for weeks, game after game postponed. Our FA Cup third round tie at Lincoln was and still might be the most called off cup-tie ever, we eventually won that 5-1, went on to play three matches v Portsmouth, the third at neutral ground White Hart Lane, winning 2-1, Sunderland winning that 2-1 and eventually losing at home to Manchester United all in a month.
No school closures and if you were late it was a trip to the Housemaster for one on the arse.

Yep.

Since Jimmy the Chin changed us to all skyblue.

I hope hope Hummel have factored this into next seasons kit!
