Only 2 of the games this month are against the current top 6? I see why you'd include Ipswich, they'll probably be top 6 by the weekend, just about (although this would still leave us playing only 2 of the top 6, albeit Ipswich twice, so 3 games). We've beaten 2nd, 3rd & 4th, all away, by an aggregate score of 9-2.

Not in such a congested and testing time frame though

I agree-it’s Hollywood or bust as there will be a few departures I would imagine if we don’t make it. The likes of Wright/Rudoni/Milan/Rushworth et al will be a tough ask to replace.

I think we’d be fine. Improved stature, players will want to come here. Our biggest loss will be Lampard if we don’t go up.

These threads always fail to mention that every other team in the division will be stretched by injuries and fatigue .

And other team have got it easy? Ipwich have an extra one this week this the team everyone of the bedwetters seem to be worried about 1 win in 3 home games. They are currently 16 points behind us and vastly inferior GD stop worrying, enjoy the ride

Getting ahead of myself massively as we won't do it

But I would absolutely piss myself if we ended up equalling or bettering that record 111 points that the Brummies got last season when their starting striker was worth more than pretty much every club in the division

If our game on Saturday was against a team with the same stats but not a parachute club many would be a lot more confident.

The parachute thing means nothing if they aren't winning games. Everyone has been saying for a few weeks that Ipswich are the team to watch and they'll be in the top two but it seems it was based on a short good run which has culminated in losing to Oxford. If they don't win tonight then maybe everyone will decide that they aren't actually that brilliant.

I am worried about the match on Saturday and am predicting a 2-2 draw but I think we have a decent chance to win...

As for a wobble, it may well happen this month. We are a bit depleted and we have a lot of matches, but this is the same for most teams at this time of year. I think we'll dro psome points but be broadly fine

The better half said the other day, "Oh, I just bumped into 'big Mick' in town. He's put on a fair bit of weight,I tell you. He makes you look thin!"

I'm now pondering if this wasn't quite the compliment that I first thought.

I have the opposite problem. I lost most of my wobbly bits and got constant remarks on how well I looked. But my new partner is only 5'7" and is petite. So now I don't have the wobbly bits to help me keep warm when winter arrives and she makes me look big again

Think we’ll be ok, Asante would of been a huge loss if rudoni still wasn’t fit but it’s just a straight swap, hopefully wrights back on the bench or else no attacking options is a bit of a worry, get to January and couple more bodies in the door we’ll be fine,

Definitely our hardest set of fixtures so far, possibly the entire season, but we're playing with such confidence it's for everyone else to worry about playing us.

That said, I do think we'll drop a few points, but no one else seems to be able to get a run going, so think the points gap will still be a healthy one come January.

Just hoping that Rudoni is ok (seems to have gone quiet after the flurry of posts about him on Sunday), and we don't pick up any daft YC's on Saturday or any more injuries, that could put a spanner in the works.

Crazy when you think we've just won 11 out of 12. And we have 28 games left to find potentially 13 more.

I swear if it doesn't happen for us this season I will need to find a new hobby because it would just be too much for me to deal with.

I had this very thought earlier today. While I won’t believe it until it happens, if we don’t go up now…
Fucking hell. I can’t think too much about either scenario.

weve won 13 and need to win maybe another 13 with say 5 draws and 10 defeats to hit 87 points
Ipswich have won 7 and need to win maybe another 18 with say 6 draws and 4 defeats to hit 88 points to overtake us

That’s true, but I think that parachute payment teams should reap their advantage at this point. Not saying we’re defo not going up, I just think it won’t be as comfortable as we are now.

in the last week, the parachute teams have had 4 games and won 1 point . In fact, they have lost as many points in 5 days across 4 games, as we have all season

Ipswich are playing like a bunch of strangers and are 15 points and 21 goals behind us.

Southampton are 19 points and 29 goals behind us.

Leicester are a lost cause and have the points deduction looming.

There's only 28 games left. 28 sounds a lot but for Southampton to go past us they need to win 7 and us lose 7 just to catch us up. That's a quarter of the remaining games. We've only dropped 11 points in the first 18 games.

The other teams in the top 6 are not consistent. Only Birmingham and Derby have managed 3 wins out of the last 5 games in the top half of the table and Derby have lost 2 of their last 3. Stoke have lost 3 of their last 4 games. There's no sign of anyone coming out of the pack to seriously challenge us yet and that's ignoring that we've won 11 of our last 12 games.

Putting an optimistic slant on it, if current PPG is maintained the season pans out as follows:

32 games - mathematically safe from relegation
37 games - play offs secure
38 games - promoted
39 games - champions

Put the dates in your diaries

based on the fact that teams play each other
after 32 games we are heading for 72 points, I would imagine even mathematically it would be earlier than that

The bookies won't even take your money on us making the playoffs, they're that sure we'll make the playoffs. All models indicate we'd need to capitulate to mess up even automatic promotion because as people have mentioned, the amount of wins needed to hit 90 points for the other teams is ridiculous. It's quite possible that 85 points secures 2nd at this rate as Boro in 2nd are only averaging 1.83 ppg.

We're potentially half way to automatic promotion already with 5 games left to the half way point!

Based on what I saw of them on Saturday against Pompey, I wouldn't be so worried. They weren't great against a really poor Pompey side.

The reality is that it will be roughly 50 points and that will probably be achieved within the next few games.

Got to say I’m very anxious about these next two games, if we can get through both with two away points I’ll be a very happy Xmas bunny
Particularly dreading Preston, I’m 62 and haven’t had an away win there in my lifetime, well one I can remember , so a point there would be a great early present
It’s our season, let’s enjoy every game

Gonna get the 'miserable c**t' shouts but i do feel this is gonna be our wobble

We've never beaten Preston away in the league. Ever. 140 years. We're cursed, so back to back defeats potentially

I think we beat Brizzle at home, I fancy us against half the premier league at home tbf,

But then Southampton i feel will be a cut a paste of today, leaving us 1 win 3 defeats in 4. Enough to still be top, but with an almost completely eroded lead.
The good thing is after Blues on Jan 4th weve played 10 of the current top 12 away. Doesnt get much harder than that

To be fair, I obviously expected us to win today.

No Torp or Saka though didn't help.

If this is a wobble, we've earnt enough breathing space to deal with it.

Confident that today is a blip. No dramas.
