Was it? Doesn't happen often does it?

Not rocket science is it, some morons don't know the difference between applause and silence

They announced it as a minutes silence
Why can't people listen
I also mentioned no black arm bands in the match thread.
I asked my brother at the end about last weeks protocol as I was convinced they also called for a minutes silence.
Can anyone confirm?

No last weeks was definitely called as a minutes applause.

This weeks was definitely called as a minutes silence. I have no idea why people started clapping.

Was announced over tannoy that it was a minutes applause for Jimmy Hill, I think that's where the confusion came from for today's respect before the game.

No, doesn't happen often, but last week we clapped, this week it seemed obvious to some that they would again clap.

How many people 1. Listen to the tannoy? 2. Can hear what is said on the tannoy?

I know half the time I can't understand what they are saying.

I got in just as it started and was a tad confused at what was going on.

Exactly. Another factor. Not everyone was in the ground when the announcement was being made anyway.

Thanks for clearing it up lads.
So confusion reined and not necessarily surprising then.

Why have applause for 1 person and silence for another, stick to one or the other. Personally can't understand applause for someone dying a minutes silence seems more respectful to me

I was much happier applauding Jimmy Hill last week though. It seemed the right thing to do. It wasn't just polite applause, it was heartfelt, warm, rapturous applause befitting the great man and recognising what he did for us.

I thought it was strange when everybody started clapping, really weird. It was silent for a few seconds though.

There were still people coming in, some of them saw everybody stood about and started clapping.

Exactly, Samo.

Can't see the fuss myself. Nearly 20,000 people and a couple of thousand clapped and the rest stayed silent. Everyone I saw in Block 20 stayed silent, but I looked over and the Port Vale fans were clapping.

Can't see the big deal. People were respecting and I'm sure many didn't hear the announcement and many assumed it would be applause because we applauded last week.

Lets be honest some people clapped when it was a minutes silence, either thick fookers or deaf or werent taking notice. They showed respect they weren't jeering or being disrespectful so what s the hassle ffs? Some people just look for negatives..:thinking about:

Yep. Could understand a thread if someone was disrupting the occasion, but not where everyone has shown respect in one way or another.

I can never understand what they are saying on the tannoy, that's why I always listen to the CWR commentary while I'm watching the game.

Spot on.

Guess people didn't listen to the tannoy & you just did what was asked last Saturday.

Not fucking hard to stop clapping when it's blatantly clear you're in the minority though is it?

Were these people thinking "Fucking hell, this silence is a bit disrespectful to Don Howe!"?

As much because Hill's time with the club deserves to be celebrated, whereas it's more about respect for Don Howe the man.

I looked and I saw the main stand clapping and the Port Vale fans clapping. Would seem pretty obvious that with the away fans a lot of their lot wouldn't have been listening.

Seems to me that over that side of the ground it would appear that everyone was clapping.

After about 20 seconds it died down and turned into silence once they realised.

Sorry but disagree, Jimmy Hills contribution to the club should have been celebrated with applause today, last week his passing should have been respected with silence. Just my opinion of course.

Or nothing at all. A devalued gesture due its ridiculous frequency but clubs feel they have to do it for some reason.
