Marcus Hall Everton 2011?

Did George Curtis ever get one? Fantastic player and captain guiding us through the divisions before leading us with JS to the FA cup.

Gary mcsheffrey is owed one but it wont happen under the current owners and if we move stadiums i cant see it happening at all unless we hire the Ricoh for a one off game cant imagine hosting a testimonial at a stadium the player never played in

I assume this is a joke? Whilst Sheff was a decent player for us saying he's owed a testimonial is a bit strange.

my understanding of a testimonial is you get one for 10 years service which he did not starting a campaign to get him one just saying he qualifies

George Curtis and Mick Kearns had two joint testimonial matches. City played Northampton Town at Highfield Road in May 1966, drawing 2-2. The crowd was over 13000, boosted by the presence of George Hudson for the Cobblers.

A year later, just as City were being promoted, the other testimonial was against Liverpool, which City won 2-1 in front of 25000. Liverpool brought their full first team.

Oh right, ok. I don't agree that's what a testimonial should be for: it should be for someone who directly changed the fortunes of the club (George Curtis) or a player who is classed as a legend by fans (Dion Dublin), guess the latter would never happen though as some CCFC fans still class Dublin as Judas and a backstabbing Villa c**t despite him literally being forced out by our greedy chairman.

Shouldn't have posted that now. Grendel will be along soon moaning about Dublin not playing in a League cup match against Luton, overlooking 5 fantastic years of service he gave us and without his goal scoring exploits we would have went down a lot sooner than we did.

I thought the idea of a testimonial was to give a player a bit of cash when they were retired. Not many players who are going to need that with salaries these days.

Surprised there hasn't been a call for scraping the 10 year 'rule' & awarding Carl Baker one....

It is becoming more and more the trend for players to use the event raise money for charity, if the player has had several contracts in the top 2 divisions then they should have made enough to do that. The caveat being quite a few of them piss all the money away on a flash lifestyle or feeding a gambling habit, I don't have a lot of sympathy for that, the PFA can look after those cases.

I remember Bill Glazier's testimonial in 1974. If my memory serves me right, we played an England 1966 XI. Can't remember the score but it was a great game! I think even Glazier scored a couple and he was a goalie!

It used to be ten years unbroken service to the club and a way of giving the player a pension pot. The likes of Dave Busst are diferent as it acknowledges a career tragically cut short and again is a financial handshake.

McSheffrey doesn't qualify.

Best one I remember was Silletts against Spurs. Oggy storming all the way down the pitch trying to score!

It ended in a 6-6 draw! Glazier did score two, you are correct. He went up front late on and Neil Ramsbottom went in goal.

The England line-up included nine of the 11 that won the final. The two missing were Bobby Charlton and Nobby Stiles, who were replaced by George Eastham and Jimmy Armfield who were in the 1966 squad. One of my most vivid memories of that night is Bobby Gould playing for England!

I'm sure Marcus Hall didn't qualify either but he got one. Their spells at City and appearances are similar. I would have awarded neither a testimonial. I didn't bother going to Hall's game because I felt he did not warrant it.

with the money players are on now (even ours) testimonials should be sent to the scrap bin. They were initially started to help players after playing but at a time when a lot were earning less than a factory worker. Players who finish early through injury should be the only ones to have one now.
