I remember him playing for us always gave maximum effort. Perhaps they can show Wright some clips of Yorath flogging his guts out for the team

Great memories of Terry leading Hutch, Fergie, Ian Wallace & Co in the mid to late 70s. Gone too soon!

Yep that was a cracking side. I remember us playing Liverpool and Souness thought he was a hard man until he came up against Yorath. Think he lived round Cannon Park area when playing for us. Rest in peace

Anyone around at that time, I was starting to go to Highfield Rd on-me-tod and with mates rather than the old man, that team is still the best in living memory. I still think Gordon Milne was the best manager we ever had and we could name all the team and when we make our favourite 11, 7 or 8 are always included even though it's 50 years ago.
Terry was one of my three favourite players along with Bobby Mac and Hutch and those three would get into any Div 1 club at that time and would still be an asset to our team today. I am part Welsh so always saw Terry not as the best captain City ever had but also Wales. He was lucky because he wore the most iconic strip in CCFC and WFC history so always the photos of him are legendary.
I know every generation believes their was the best but the 70s truly was for us.
I still see Gabby Logan as Terry's kid not as the star she is today, likewise I never see Alan Carr as the super-star he has become but Graham Carr ex-manager, in those days, of the proper Boro, not Middlesbro, but Nune'ton our only true rival over the years, and we nearly played them once in the cup.

Just caught this now.
Very sad news.
What an (unlikely) addition to us he was when he signed.
Brief though his stay was, he was Matty Grimes (twice over) and armour plated.

To describe him as a "former midfielder" is completely inadequate.
Terry was a very good player, but his qualities as a captain were absolutely exceptional - you could feel his leadership even from the stands. He was at the hub of perhaps the most entertaining team in our history.
RIP Terry and sincere condolences to the family.
Was it Terry who moved in and JH vacated to get him here, think that's right?

Correct, and I believe that the Yoraths got to keep JH's dog as part of the transfer.

When we signed Terry, we knew that we were getting a hard man who would be a great skipper. What we (well me) didn’t realise was what an exceptionally good midfielder we were getting.
Yes, a great captain. Yes, a great enforcer, but some of his passing was sublime.

Very sad news. What a signing he was. If I remember right he signed on the same day as Ian Wallace and Bobby McDonald, so probably the best day's transfer business the club has ever done. Despite his hard man on pitch persona he only ever came across as a genuinely nice guy off it. I think he was close to becoming our manager on a couple of occasions too but it wasn't meant to be.
