At the Walsall game on saturday and cannot believe the decision made by Venus to completely change our set up. 1-0 up completely dominant with the midfield three and he alters the shape leading to their equaliser and subsequent pressure until the end of the game. I get that Rose had a knock but why bring Jones on at that stage, was the complete opposite of what we needed.

Rather than stretch the game to our benefit it allowed the Walsall midfield to find far more space in the final thirs, completely summed up by their goal and the space they had for such an intricate move on the edge of our area.

Very poor from Venus and probably shows his lack of managerial pedigree

Just remember this is how Andy Thorns reign started, just like Venus's.

We all knew how that worked out with a manager with 0% managerial experience.

Took some people several years to work it out - led the football expert Stuart "If you think Andy Thorn is a bad football manager you know nothing I repeat NOTHING about football" linnell.

You can always second guess decisions. If it works, he's a genius; if it doesn't, he's a fool.
The fact is no-one can know what would have happened if he did something different.

Well, the job is up for grabs. With your greater experience and knowledge, you should apply

He didn't exactly have a host of options really

I'm not sure wether to wade in against the manager or for the manager yet. I think I'll give it a few more games.

The problem is in terms of squad depth it's ok but weighted too heavily in favour of forwards and defenders.

It's light in midfield. There are really only 5 midfielders and we play a 3 man midfield most of the time.

Rose is an athelete but no great shakes - he will score goals though

Ghadzev looks out of his depth

Stevenson is a find and I think it's pretty accidental

McCann is short term and injured. His ccfc time will end as soon as its started.

I can't be bothered to argue about the other one but I've seen nothing to suggest he's no more than a bench occupier in a strong team.

There's no tackling aggressive player and only Stevenson who can move forward on the ball

It's a weak area for the team.

Maybe Stokes could play as a midfielder when he returns from injury?

Anyone know how Lawton got on in his run out today? Maybe trying to push him on? He could be an option off the bench, it's like for like then. I don't know much about him, but what I have heard is that he has steel and gets in peoples faces. Let's just hope he isn't as aggressive and stupid as Deegan but have a better eye for a pass than Doyle...

This was the same manager who the experts assured us was the next big thing; there would have been outrage had he not been appointed. It was strange that SISU got no credit whatsoever for unearthing the next gem in English football. Grendel and I took relentless abuse for daring to point out Thorn's many shortcomings.

Thorn was a hero because he was some sort of anti sisu cult figure.

Point out he was rubbish and it was hands are tied.

Biggi has been putting himself about all season, and along with Willis has been one of our most consistent performers.

He was a hero because he was against his employer, and yet they still employed him ?

The fact that some people refuse to see it is staggering. The amount of ground he covered on Saturday was incredible and he has been excellent at breaking up play and winning second balls - particularly away from home. We may lack depth in midfield, but it has been our strongest department in recent weeks.

At least MV is trying to do things. At least by changing it mid match (probably as Rose got injured) you can see an attempt of a plan B. I'd like to see Thomas and mcBean come forward into the team now too.

I agree that McBean should be promoted to the first team squad (in place of Tudgay), but Thomas had his chance at the start of the season and blew it, I'd keep him in the under 23's until Jan then loan him out to a league 2 or top end conference team.

The difference being Thorn's previous roles were as a scout, whereas Venus has had assistant manager roles

It looks to me that had Venus stayed at TM's side last season we may have carried on where we started instead of loading the squad with aged has beens.

TM's great work was seeing us start a season the worst since 1919, how would you consider that great? Everything TM done great fell apart from December..... last year.

lol same thing every day

he got us playing with identity of passing footy, he put a good squad together with more long term contracts. thats what i think venus is building on.

anyone who thinks we were ever in danger of relegation is an idiot.

we are in no danger of relegation. i said that when we were bottom and without a win.

today is about catching up with top 6. if we dont win i will be GUTTED. but not because i feel we are in danger of going down.

Agree. Not at all convinced Venus is the man for the job. Nice honeymoon period at the moment, but let's see if he's got the nous to change things and use a good tactical brain when things are going awry.

Venus has knowledge of budget. I don't think Thorn had any idea about such matters.

I like to give managers the time to establish themselves to see what they can do, but it was clear to me that Thorn had no clue the first match of the season away at Yeovil. I was sitting close to the dugouts, and heard the abuse that he gave billy daniels for not being in the right place (he was where oggy had shouted for him to be).

Totally unnecessary, but also the look of bemusement on his face during the match. He hadn't a clue. Lee Carsley stood quietly behind them both looking as though he felt the same as me about thorn.

Grendel was/is right on this one.
