Can anybody suggest who to use to get a good Broadband and Television set-up?

It depends where you live and what TV you need.

I just got BT broadband and TV as it worked out loads cheaper than having Sky and it's faster internet.

I had BT for the package but then when it expires you get to keep the TV box so then just moved to Vodafone broadband.

Depends on a few factors.
Number of people on line at the same time?
What sort of content do you watch? Terrestrial channels, Netflix etc?
Do you want sports/movies?
What is the connectivity like in your area?
Do you want catch up TV?

Who needs TV in the 21 century? Just get speedy internet and stream everything.

I’ve always been Virgin (insert Otis joke) so not sure what normal BT lines are like. I like Virgin though.

Quite possibly the worst broadband on the planet, if I'm more then 10 foot away I can't get a wifi signal. can't wait for the contract to end.

Mine works better than BT or Virgin did when I had them. I bought an extender when I had virgin as that went absolutely nowhere you should try that.

Pretty much. Do your research on the TV, look for the best deal for the channels you want, broadband will probably come free or cheap with the TV provider (personally I switch to Prime and Netflix plus catchup and the odd Now TV subscription when needed a while ago and haven’t looked back).

Broadband speed and service will likely vary depending on your distance from your local exchange and the type of equipment they have there so just be prepared to whine like a bitch and leave your contract if things aren’t working early on. I signed up with Sky once when I was sick of Virgin TV, took one look at the picture quality and went straight back within days. You always have your 14 day cooling off period if nothing else.

Remember when it’s renewal time to change it my virgin went from 85.00 to £125.00 when the deal ended, asked to leave and they gave me another deal not as good as the first but good enougg

Just had a reduction in price on my virgin contract with an upgrade on broadband and phone calls. Down from £97 to £77 a month.

Here's my analogy:
Why buy from a middle man when you can buy from the source?

BT/OpenReach are a monopoly. All the others are middlemen beholden to BT/Openreach.

If you have an issue that needs fixing the middlemen have to go ask the source to fix it. Stay with the source and life will be relatively trouble free.
Trust me I've had Talk Talk, Plusnet and others in the past, all held up by BT/Openreach when issues have occurred. If you are a BT/Openreach customer your issues get solved quicker.

I agree, mostly. However:

BT are massively more expensive than most of their rivals, due mainly to their cross-subsidising of BT Sport.
PlusNet is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of BT so there is no reason their service should be any slower than from BT/Openreach itself.
There have been issues in the past where BT (and PlusNet) have revealed private customer information* to a third-party without good legal reason.

*The same is also true for Sky and Virgin.

I actually had it from the engineers that they would fix BT customers as a priority ahead of the others. Lets hope Plusnet are now apart of that thought?
Regarding expensive comparisons, I actually have the BT TV complete package and the ultra so called fibre speed (72mps) cheaper than other providers for similar packages. £55.
It can be down to the confusion customers face.
How things will change when Openreach is separated should be interesting.
