Did the original article say the job was his?

No.

However the way you all are going on about it, readers would be under the impression that it did.

All it served to do was confirm Mowbray's interest, the same way various publications noted his interest in the vacant Birmingham City job back in October. In the end an interest is all it was.

If Andy Turner ran the same piece with quotes or information from the club saying that they had approached Mowbray or enquired about his availability, then it would have been fair game to claim that the CT had broken the news of his arrival first.

However he did not and thus should ease off with the 'I TOLD YO SO'.

Isn't that what we're talking about though? There are tons of people in this thread who didn't believe the CT were right to say there was any interest (there are some who still don't!)

The good thing about this article Is the legion of people that post on these forums ( with contacts at the club) were beaten to it by an old fashioned journalist .. I await the phone tapping trial

If he wanted the job then surely he would have applied, which apparently he didn't so why mess around playing hard to get? It isn't some sort of teenage drama show.

I take it this was a technicality
He didn't apply, he was approached

Gotta to say the CET took one hell of a beating in this thread. Hills was more about the structure of article itself in relation to the headline. Which is fair enough.
Others however just used that as an excuse to have pop suggesting the CET don't have a clue.
I would guess they knew TM had been approached, not applied and the initial reaction was positive.

I get the impression the attacks are just about the CET reporting over Wasps. Unfortunately many don't realise it's a rare good news story in the City for many people.

( I don't agree with franchising. Just stating the facts)

Everything about the Telegraph is clickbait, then again so is every tabloid.

I know I've broken more records. I'm a clumsy old duffer.

Always thought it better to try to smile than sulk. Some on here should give it a go.

Blimey, I've never really been a fan of the web version of the CET which has always looked cheap and tacky to me. However it seems a bit harsh to me to fall out with a local paper because they throw out the odd opinion piece that I dislike, and support Wasps (which is not of necessity an unalloyed good news story, if you think it through).

As ar as I'm concerned Gilbert, Turner and Poole (sounds like a 70s superband) do a pretty good job most of the time on CCFC stuff - quoting their articles but refusing to link to them is a bit petty imho.

You obviously don't understand my original problem with it. It was headlined as a definite thing when at the time it wasn't. Simple as that. I think they should have saved that headline for when they had an actual quote.

I see what you're saying Hill - there is a disconnect between the emphatic tone of the headline, and the more cautious tone of the article, but ultimately that's the nature of The Telegraph, and if you want CCFC content, you have to live with the medium it's given to us in (I don't think The Independent would have been particularly interested in that story).

It seems that the content was accurate and you have to credit Andy Turner for being confident enough in the story to run it without the safety net of a published source.

They should go full clickbait and run 'You Won't Believe These 10 Reasons Why Tony Mowbray Is The Saviour!' and all of them are gifs and something about Netflix. Then you answer some questions which tells you that you're a lot like Jake Gyllenhaal. The internet's a wonderful thing.

All that being said I will retract 'gutter press' to be fair.
