Teenager Says Sheff Weds have Ruined his Career (1 Viewer)

Interesting read, cynical side of me says that he knew what he was getting himself in for when he signed or at least his parents did, he knew the consequences for leaving and braking this deal. The other side thinks they should just let him go to chase his dream.

All clubs try and sign as many as they can if they think they have even the slightest chance of being any good so that they can claim compo if the kids go to other clubs. Its a meat market and is getting worse year by year.
Loads of kids are in and out of our academy and the club know that if they get picked up by anyone else then they'll be due some cash.
This one is a little worse as he's signed a deal. He must have had some payment from them although I'm not sure how legally binding a contract can be if it was signed by an 11 year old 7 or 8 years ago.

It might not have been the right fit and people shouldn't be signing such contracts at such a tender age, but even though not perfect he should have kept going. Bided his time, plied his trade and then looked to leave when he was much older.

Besides coaches and trainers and managers come and go and I bet many of the people he was working with when he was a young kid aren't exactly the same people he'd be working with now!

Can't blame Sheff Weds for that, they're protecting an asset. In this footballing climate, every club outside the PL has to scrape for every penny they can.

Surely if the lad was/is a footballing 'protege', there'd be wealthier clubs looking to sign him, and the £250 000 binding fee wouldn't be an issue.

Reading the story it seems they just signed up without bothering to check what they were signing. Probably got excited thinking they were in the money.
