Not much shocks me, but that's terrible.
It's come out what happened too, hope the 15 year old doesn't make it past a few weeks in "detention". I wonder if she will be out by 30 living a normal life
Can't imagine what the parents are going through.
Can you expand on "what happened?"
I've read that her trial will be a regular hearing as opposed to a youth court

Was saying this earlier, can't bare to think what her mum is going to be like mentally after seeing her and finding her.
Just think what if it was my daughter, Id have probably just rampaged the court, then her parents.

I'm with you on that. News never usually affects me either, but having a 7 year old daughter myself it really hit a nerve. Safe to say I gave my princess an extra big hug after school today.
Absolutely horrendous and I feel for her parents.

I wonder who the 7 year old was with.
Could be older siblings I suppose.
I only have the one child and she was never allowed on any playing fields or anywhere else without my being there, or her mum.
Only since she has turned 12 have we let her go to meet friends etc.
With this we don't know who the poor little girl was with, whether this 15 year old was known to the girl, perhaps even with the girl.
Just can't understand how though you can be 7 years old, go to a playing field and end up with your throat being cut and by another child.
Beggars belief.

You do get them. Only met two or three kids out of the thousands Ive taught that really scared me. Just no humanity behind their eyes, all boys though in my case. There's something about them where you just know theyre going to do something awful. One was done for dropping concrete blocks onto cars on the M6, another for rape a few years after they left school.
Not a child psychologist but would love to know how it happens. Abuse? Genetics? Parenting? Not a clue.

No idea who she was with, I'm a bit over protective and wouldn't let mine go that far.
See kids about 5 or 6 out playing in the dark on the road sometimes, baffles me

God bless that child who was so horrifically murdered. I'm pretty unshockable, but when I heard this on the car radio the other morning, I almost had to stop the car for a minute.
What would drive a 15 year old to commit such an abominable act?! She is obviously deeply, deeply troubled...however this does not absolve her from what she's done. Life for a life, I say, but then again when do we see justice prevail in such acts of human evil? Murder is murder, it is an act of free will and an act of intention, so this teenager knew and meant what she was doing.
As a father myself, with two young children, this sort of thing really troubles me.

Same here, Nick. There's no such thing as 'overprotective' though, in my estimation, not in this day and age. We have to be so vigilant and careful where our children's security is concerned. That in itself is bad enough, but it has to be done.
Soon as my two are old enough, they're following my footsteps and taking martial arts classes. I started at 6 and went all the way to 2nd Dan Black Belt in Shotokan Karate by age 31, and it's come in handy a few times - like when I was 11 and a guy tried to abduct me and chuck me in a van behind Sainsburys in town, which was a real shocker for me and my family, but if I hadn't stunned him with a punch to the nose and a forearm to the ear (improvised at the time, but I had the discipline and instinct to do it) then who knows?
I digress, however. My heart goes out to the girl's family, and though I don't know the circumstances around the murder, it's still heartbreaking.

It is. Mostly because there's nothing that can be done until they do something horrific. No mechanism for flagging concerns (unlike terrorism) and even if there was social services are so overrun nothing would happen.
Only met one (the rapist) they tend to not show up generally. His was single Mum, very quiet very timid. Dad has left. His relationship with his Mum was identical to Cartmans in South Park, bossing her around calling her names, she just couldn't cope. He was fucking 11 at the time I met her! I suspect the Dad did the damage there.

This is why my daughter has been attending MMA lessons as soon as she could. Even now she knows the basics like keeping your guard up and how to punch. I know I can't protect her forever.
Really think self defence should be on the curriculum.

Unfortunately justice will mean the perpetrator will benefit from education enhancements and a new life on release with a protected identity.
There may be more to this case than meets the eye but Mary Bell now is married with children under a totally new identity while her victims are long dead. Also who knows. The new chap that moved in next door to you might used to be called Venables. Still in sure he's been rehabilitated.

Would you rather the state paid to keep her locked up, or she saw the error of her ways and became a productive member of society, paying tax and all the rest?
Some of the most effective people I've met in schools stopping kids getting into crime were ex-cons.
Homicide actually has a pretty low recidivism rate.

As I've mentioned on here before I've been in prison,not proud of it but that's in the past now.But some cons I've met inside were the stuff of nightmares.One con had been in and out since he was a kid,and was a true psychopath. You could talk with him and he was "normal" but could turn and saw him go berserk and screws were shit scared of him.He battered a schoolfriend as a youngster and got detained and just kept on doing the same up to an adult. Why he started on a life of violence so young I'm unsure,but when I read cases of children doing evil things it don't shock me as some are capable of doing evil acts.
