Few options now which is great

I’d go

Rushworth
MVE Thomas Kitching Dasilva
Allen Grimes
Sakamoto Torp BTA
Wright

Wilson
Woolfenden
KKH
Bidwell
Brau
Eccles
Andrews
EMC
Simms

Harsh on Simms and Woolfenden who haven’t done anything to lose their place. Allen over EMC to get a bit of control in midfield and gives us more fire power on the bench if needed.

Some competition for places, which is great. The team did a job last night so we cannot complain, but I would like to go back to our usual model. Wright has to come back in for me.

EMC will start but for me flatters to deceive and at times is lazy

i’d revert back to what we played against Blackburn despite the positive performance yesterday. maybe allen in for one of the forwards and Torp at 10

I hope BTA can keep up his level of intensity over a 3 game week. Certainly wouldn't drop him but he must be knackered. I'm knackered just watching him

He's a bit of a luxury player, as he doesn't track back well, but when fit and on form, possibly worth the risk.
BTA (when played wide) and Tats both offer much more tracking back, so i can see the benefit of playing them too.

Same team as Blackburn. There have been times where our midfield has been bypassed in these last 2 games.

I think he will. No real reason to change it. We've got 5 clean sheets from 6 games with them two as CB and the one game where he adds in Woolfenden, we concede.

Not Woolfenens fault and he had a decent game and fitted in well but I can't see FL breaking up Kitching and Thomas if he reverts to just two CBs.

Its crossed my mind that Kitching was at fault for the goal last night and it might be just the excuse Frank needs to start Wolfenden instead. BTA has to start. I think Simms will give way for Wright, although he doesnt deserve it TBH, but thats the luxury we have nowadays

He has to revert back to 433 for me and get after Watford early. These are poor away from home so an early goal or two could wrap this one up and then look at making changes to manage minutes.

I would agree with that team, BTA has to start given his form but I’d prefer 3 proper midfielders. So he can go left. Nice that Wright and Saka should have fresh legs to get at them.

Wright will obviously start after sitting out last night. Simms did very well but given that was his first 90 of the season he'll be benched.

Sakamoto presumably will start well after his good cameo last night and with fresh legs. The only question is whether he comes in for EMC in the same formation or if we revert back to the usual.

So either:

Rushworth
Thomas - Wolf - Kitch
MVE - Grimes - Torp - Dasilva
Sakamoto - Wright - BTA

or

Rushworth
MVE - Thomas - Kitch - Dasilva
Grimes - Torp
Sakamoto - BTA - EMC
Wright

I think more likely it will be the latter.

set up both at the weekend, another at Sheff wed - he creates a lot and holds the ball up well
he just has an awkward style, but his strength makes up for it

Not sure where you get that from.
The team is now generally great at tracking back and working hard. EMC is the weakest at it. I think it's not his commitment or like it's more he's a big lad not hugely athletic. Hopefully he can work at that.

FL will be watching the game tonight and working out his best side. But i wouldn't be shocked to see Wright and Tatsu come into start and Simms and EMC drop down to the bench and have the same day squad as we had against Pompey.

I keep saying this, but I just can't believe that EMC not tracking back isn't tactical.
Otherwise it means he ignores instruction and isn't as disciplined as the rest of thexteam and Lampard ignores it, I just don't buy it.

Yeah totally agree. EMC is different to our other wingers, he plays on the shoulder of the full back or even centre back when he drifts in, trying to beat the offside trap. Hence a few of his goals last season were pulling off the last man with a ball in behind or over the top. We have defensive cover anyway when Grimes drops in and Kitching moves across, etc.

Dasilva was left 2 vs 1 three times last night, I called it out each time on the match thread.
fortunately Portsmouth couldnt capitalise on it.
EMC often loses concentration and gets caught ball watching instead of tracking his man.

Im not saying hes a poor player or should be dropped, and hes played his part in our current run, but theres still work to be done there, and an opportunity for improvement.

For me I'd go with the team that beat Blackburn. And with us getting an extra 24 hours rest we should have enough energy in the tank to get another home win.

No player in our team is lazy. Some may lack the stamina to play like MVE or Asante and get up and down the pitch whilst carrying out a high press.
Regarding EMC, I feel his fitness has never quite been 100% since he joined us and is now getting up to speed following his latest injury.
He was instrumental in us beating Blackburn and gives us a threat on the right.
Admittedly, he does not cover JDS as well as we would like, but you can't have everything. When fit and firing he will score goals.

I'd expect us to start with the 11 v Blackburn but wouldn't be surprised to see him go to that Pompey formation away at Wrexham again. 5 at the back away, 4 at home.

But there are times when you see players quite happy to sprint forwards when there are chances to score but suddenly be tired and jog back to defend. Stamina always seems to be so much better when you're attacking.

If Frank wants the team to play without fear (I think he does), he won’t achieve that by dropping someone for a rare mistake. The reason we are top of the league is largely down to the confidence installed in the players - easily lost if there is a fear of mistakes.

Watford normally have a team the size of rugby players need either our biggest or lightest of foot - Saka back in - Wright for the early goal
