I thought i would just see what people were wanting from the cup game whether they just want to progress, playing our strongest xi (whatever people think it may be) or whether provide an opportunity for youth and 'reserve' players or perhaps a mixture.
I personally believe that we should play a mixture of 1st team and youth players, as we should in theory, comfortably beat Bury with this team.

-------------------Dunn------------------
Clarke------Wood-------Cameron---Christie
-----------------Deegan------------------
---------Bigrimana-----Thomas------------
------------------Baker-------------------
-----------ROD-----------Jeffers----------

Subs- Murphy, Cranie, Keogh, Bell, Ruffels, Platt, Wilson

Thoughts?

I would like to see a mixture of first teamers and youth players. I wouldn't want us to play a team full of youngsters and lose - We could do with a good cup run. It does bring in money after all.

Something like this:

GK - Chris Dunn
RB - Jordan Clarke
LB - Richard Wood
CB - Nathan Cameron
CB - James McPake
DM - Gael Bigirimana
RCM - Gary Deegan
LCM - Conor Thomas
AM - Carl Baker
ST - Clive Platt
ST - Roy O'Donovan

Subs - Lee Burge, Cyrus Christie, David Bell, Josh Ruffels, Callum Wilson, Shaun Jeffers, Lukas Jutkiewicz.

I doubt that Clingan will be available. International fixtures last year during the week so Clingan and Westwood couldnt play v Morecambe so I would imagine it would be the same again. Murphy might not be available as well then.

Pointless competition that we have zero chance of winning. I'm not sure a cup run helps a small squad like ours and the side listed at the top is ideal. Give them their heads and tell them it matters not how far they progress that this tournament is theirs and we're looking for performance not results. Give them the confidence to go out and try a few things.

Fwiw Bury will be no mugs and I wouldn't be so sure of a victory as to suggest this side will be too much for them. I do hope we play the kids/reserves and I still hope we win, but there is now only one league between us and they will still be riding high, proving a point and playing with confidence after promotion.

Rob, im not naive and think we'll easily win, i agree with you when you say they'll be no mugs, they have recently been promoted and will have momentum plus its always difficult to go to a small stadium as we found out against morecambe, hereford and even hartlepool (though at home). I was only saying in theory/ on paper, but we know football aint played on paper.
Plus i think your right fanta, im sure Thorn said he's going to take all competitions seriously

Fanta & Sw88 are right. Andy did say he would play his strongest side. The income from games, however small, will be invaluable. & the possibility of a big draw later would surely encourage that policy. The Morecambe way was a disaster.

I'd say... it's a win win situation. You've got scope early on in the season to try some new things out, if you don't progress, there's another potential cup run in a few months. If, indeed, we do win, we've got a lot of potential revenue coming our way.

Stick with the kids... Morecombe will not repeat itself.
