Sick of hearing the "Tavares needs a chance" bollocks.

Hes 21, about 8 stone wet through and because he's scored 4 against Solihull B team people want him in the first team. This isn't football manager, I get you want to bring through an unknown youngster who will tear up the championship because he got 2 goals and an assist against Barnsley reserves, but fact is, he isn't big enough. The coaches know when he's ready. "Worth bringing on for the last 20 mins surely"

Why?

Tbf sometimes you just need a chance. We're not going to win the FA cup and with a lot of games in Feb, can't afford Vik injured so it's the Southampton game I'd play him in. Be a great test and see if he's at the level with less risk. He's full of confidence and you never know.

Can't really use him in the fa cup...I would think we need the extra revenue a cup run may bring

11 stone? How heavy do you want him to be? You do realise that most footballers are generally lean and not that heavy.

But if vik plays and gets injured we've fekked everything and he'd have to play in the league. The ideal time imo

One of the worst takes I’ve seen.

What’s the plan with him then? Just bang in goals in the under 23’s for the next 2 years and then sell him to the first offer?

21? Irrelevant. Players younger than him are playing every week for better teams than us.

We’ll be crying out for goals now in Goddens absence. Give him a few games. If he’s not good enough, we’ll soon find out.

Yep very weird thread. The guy really can't do much more in terms of scoring goals against the opposition he faces. Robins has repeatedly said he's a great kid with a wonderful attitude and infectious personality so it's not like he's a jonno type bellend either. Not sure why there's this negative attitude towards fans who see a young player scoring left right and centre and ask the question of him stepping up

Doing my head in too.

He’s not the messiah just a very good player at reserve level.

Didn’t really get a chance to break into the first team at Rochdale either.

Needs a decent loan and a season playing first team football.

And before anyone says he’s better than Walker-pace alone does not make a player.

Got a long way to go but fingers crossed he’ll be an asset.

The fact he wasn't on the bench today shows all you need to know about where the management rate him atm, really.

think he’s ready for a league 2 loan along with bapz. would be nice to get the two on loan at the same club to build a senior partnership.

Everyone says he’s not ready, yesterday Stoke started wright-Phillips, who scored his first first team goal after playing u23 for most the season… similar age to Tavares…

Like most City fans I’ve not seen him play enough to really know.

What I do know is that he can’t do more this season to be given a go. He has pace, he’s in goal scoring he’s confident, qualities that Vik and Waggy don’t have currently.

Robins says he’s a natural finisher, he would know.

when you can have 7 subs it’s strange not to give yourself that option.

I reckon we'll see the lad in the coming weeks when we have a huge number of games in a short period
With no PL next week the Championship will take centre stage
God help him if he doesn't score in his first game or two

Ideally he’d have gone out on loan this season - wasn’t he also a reserve striker for Rochdale?

At 18. He is now 21. If he physically isn't up to it now, I doubt he ever will be.

Torquay had QPR 19 year old Sinclair Armstrong on loan. He scored a couple and certainly made an impression , big fast striker with a big future. Gone back to QPR whilst they decide where next. Obviously not ready for first team. Point is , the National league is a good grounding for potential but not for the faint hearted in physicality.
Think it's time Tavares steps up to mens football now. Needs to test himself against stronger centre backs

The trouble is we are hearing about this natural goal scorer in the U23s...& we need a goal scorer in the first team......That is why the fans are frustrated with him not being given a chance ...so give him a go - if it doesn't work out ...we just give him a bit more time in U23s

Unlike oiks like you and me, Robins doesn’t need to see him get match experience to know whether he’s good enough.

Don't get the ponticelli argument. He came in the back end at league 2, scored some goals. Next season went for a seasonal loan at Macclesfield, broke his toe on debut and basically out for the season. He then never came back from it. Injuries got him at a crucial time in his cov career, in the meantime we raised up without him. It happens.

We've signed tavares whilst we've been in the championship as a low cost transfer. We've not risen without him, we're exactly where we were when we signed him and he's had a year of developing, scoring goals (top scorer in the u23s league last I heard) and getting good words off MR.

Is it time for him to feature? Not sure personally but all he can do is score goals against the oppo he faces and work on his weaknesses which we are told he's doing.

Problem here is the lack of middle ground I think, so I'm going to take it. Almost certainly he's not the next Callum Wilson, but then nobody would have predicted Callum Wilson would become Callum Wilson really would they. On the other hand there's every chance he'll end up a better player than Ponticelli who always looked kind of tubby and not very mobile to me. Will that be Championship standard? Possibly not, but I'd quite like to see him off the bench personally, not like we've left ourselves with much fucking option have we.

Michael Owen was 17 when he first played for Liverpool at a standard considerably above what we play. Wayne Rooney was 17. Robbie Fowler was 18. If you don’t give them a chance they can’t do it. We’re playing a striker who hasn’t scored in our last 15 games and the other only fir one has scored one goal all season yet we have someone within the club who appears to know where the net is. Seems to me give the guy a go if he shows he’s not up to it fair enough but he may well surprise the management team.

Also to add to that, it seems we aren't going down and sadly it also seems we've royally messed up our play off chances so it's not the worst time to stick him on for 20 mins. Not much to lose from doing it.

I can understand why people think he'd be worth a spot on the bench, especially now with Walker on loan, Godden out and Waghorn working his way back to fitness after a lengthy layoff.

There are some who seem to be of the opinion that all he can do is run fast, but he's scoring goals in the U23's, so it's not like ALL he's able to do is run fast. He does know where the net is. Yes, it's not the same standard or intensity but he can only score against who he's pitted against and he's doing that regularly.

With the sudden lack of striking options, a number of games in quick succession coming up, his performances in the U23's, the fact he's different to our other forwards in that he has pace and as an unknown quantity the opposition may not have done that much homework on him yet, it's worth taking a chance putting on the bench given it has seven berths. Maybe he'd struggle if he came on? Maybe he'd exceed everyone's expectations? But the surefire way he definitely won't be making an impact is if he's not able to come on at all.
