How things have changed.

My 13 year old lad has only ever know the modern and smart Ricoh Arena.

When i tell him about HR having broken bottles cemented into the mortar above the turnstiles he cant believe it.

If he still doesn't believe it take him down Highfield Road today, there still there.

As somebody not from Coventry I haven't been to that part of the city since we left Highfield Road. How tragic to see those houses/flats there in place of the ground.

I rented the ground floor of that house on the corner of Nicholls/Thackall Street for a bit.
I always wondered if the chappie who rented the upstairs bit could see the pitch from his window...

Anyone else deliberately not gone up swan lane or any where around high field road since the derby match so as to not see the houses in place of the ground??

I torment myself by taking a diversion sometimes up Swan Lane, can almost feel the memories. I never have and never will feel quite the same about it all since we moved

Can't miss it as I look down to the bottom of Caludon Rd toward the Mercer's every morning and climb into my motor.
Only bought the house in that final season.

Got a mate who's a big hammer's fan,he's always going on about their
olympic park move. My advice to him is always the same, when the
Boelyn ground has gone that's it ,so make the most of it.
Because it's 100 odd years of history, and you'll never recreate it.

I always remember when I first started in 1967 standing on the bottom left by a concrete wall freezing to death. Pies and tea came by to save the day. IIRC it was 3 shillings to get in.

Later I moved to the back left where it went back further in a square. I stood by the fence on the right looking down on the back alley where there was always a fight going on between rival fans. No separation in them days if I remember correctly.

Down the steps into the road where the bus back to Bedworth was waiting.

Remember netting down the sky blue stand to stop the away fans pelting us with missiles

My memory was of fans being bounced over the fence by the plod - they seemed to be very gung ho in those days and made incursions regularly during matches - and the netting for the coins
