not 100% sure on all the laws but the gun ownership rate is very high, one of the highest in Europe.

hunting is pretty commonplace and as long as you have a hunting license you can buy a gun legally. sure I read something a while back that in the last year or two they'd changed the classifications to allow semi automatic weapons like AR-15s under a hunting license which seems an odd move.

wouldn't be surprised is, similarly to post-Hungerford & Dumblane here, there's a push to make it harder to own guns after this

Highest rate of gun violence in the EU apparently. Looks like a normal angry person school shooting (though sounds more like a college than a school really).

Dont they do mental health checks before they let people rock about with Assault Rifles?

IIRC, the one in Plymouth had a license for a gun too?

Maybe he doesn’t have the balls to talk about it. That's the reality of loners. Will he not challenge this because his wife is gone?

Seems like it was a terror attack as well (regardless of what they find at his house or on his laptop etc)

Tbh I still fail to see that whatever the motives, how someone randomly shooting multiple victims can be anything but terror, yet the first line always seems to be that they're dismissing it as a theory.

Terrorism is violence for political ends. That’s what it is. It’s not just “really bad shit”

Everything I have seen so far states the opposite, not ideologically driven or terrorism related.

I get the sentiment but it's so they can differentiate between 'random' senseless attacks and those that have a direct political aim in mind. I don't know for sure but i suspect it has a substantial impact on the way the crime is investigated and prosecuted. None of this makes it any more or less horrendous for anyone affected mind.

It was all basically invented post 2001 when the Americans decided we needed to suspend all civil rights for “terrorists” cos they’re way worse than anyone else.

For someone who was very agitated just a few days ago about the lack of attention being paid to violence in Sweden, I find it very strange he’s yet to comment on the worst mass shooting in the country’s history.

It does have a huge problem. Do you want to argue against that? It doesn't just go away because a white man shot some people, even though your boner must be hard to contain. This in all probability something else, rather than something that invalidates the other.

This is looking increasing like a nutcase probably a bit along the lines of Brevik in Norway. There are some issues in the shadows of people like this that pose such a risk, and I'm curious what his motivations were when they are revealed. I am happy to discuss this any time as it is a big concern of its own.

Sorry for my late response. There was a game on and I've had a busy morning at work this morning. I guess some people have a bit more time on their hands. It's probably a bit easier for those without jobs, or wives at home to talk to.

Nah. Even if I wanted to, there is no chance a coward that displays such behaviours on the internet would step forward. We've seen it before, and I doubt he could even throw a punch at a dummy anyway, let alone a real person.

They always say jealousy and obsession are the greatest forms of flattery, and we are certainly seeing that with an increase in comments and posts since I stopped responding to them. It's very validating in a way, but given that he's tried to insinuate I am going through a divorce, I would say that's exactly what's going on with him. When you are going to such lengths to create alt accounts like this, it's quite reflective of someone clearly struggling with their life. I genuinely feel sorry for him, and I hope he can find solace soon.

Sorry to say that:

a) No-one other than utter lunatics want to fight randoms off the internet
b) I didn't insinuate you were getting a divorce, you literally told me you were (she left you "sitting in your pants" supposedly), but sorry if you lied I guess?
c) I'm only bringing up your wife (?) at all because you inexplicably decided to start ranting about mine - hopefully you can now see how unhinged it makes you look and we can both give it a rest
d) I don't have an alt account, so that's just someone else laughing at you - maybe they find you genuinely funny!

For anyone that cares, which I appreciate in all likelihood is very few, I am glad to say my relationship recovered and we reconciliated. This forum can be very helpful for people to vent or seek advice, and it has been for me too. It was unfortunately a very difficult time in my life, which is why I have sympathy for someone clearly struggling with theirs. Scrolling back four years to try and win internet points over someone's personal life being another example of that. The posts/alt accounts will probably continue, but that is their problem, and I hope they get sorted.

For what it is worth regarding the shooting, Sweden does have an issue with far-right and nazi sympathisers. It goes back to the war time, and having lived in the country, I have come across people (particularly from an older or wealthy demographic) who have some quite openly racist views. The sympathy for these opinions have almost certainly increased in recent years with the turmoil the country now sees itself in following the open border policy which has failed spectacularly.

Whilst I am still curious as to the motivations of this guy, I suspect it was probably a racist attack. I am afraid to say I think we will see more of these type of thing as time goes on. Sweden is a very interesting country, but the people are some of the strangest I've met anywhere in the world. There are so many introverts living in basements, and it wouldn't surprise me if this guy is one of them.
