Support from a BHAFC fan. (1 Viewer)

Hi guys, first post. Have always had a soft spot for Coventry after seeing the two magnificent cathedrals on my first visit many moons ago. Seeing the bombed one sitting next to the beautiful new one gave me goose bumps. Call into to have a look when ever I am in the Midlands.
This caused me to take an interest in CCFC and am really disappointed to see the problems surrounding the club.
Some of you may remember the similar problem BHAFC suffered in the 1990's. Then the old Goldstone was sold off to raise money for the chairman's pension and he then quickly sold the club for £57.!!!. We then ground shared at the Priestfield, Gillingham for 2 seasons with about 2500 making a 140 mile round trip for home matches.

However, the fans would not let the club die and marches through London west end, Fans United day, demonstrations etc. ended up with a new chairman, a fan,and the rest is history, with our new American Express stadium at Falmer in the city.

"Keep the Faith" and battle on. You will win.

Amazing how things turn round and you are now playing at a new state of the art stadium in front of 26/27000 fans on a regular basis and standing high at the top end of the Championship.
We at CCFC live in hope but there seems to be a general feeling of apathy with many fans losing interest in the beautiful game and finding other ways to spend our 'match' days.

Our problem is that the majority of fans are split, the owners have divided support.

I bet in your time every man and his dog would be on the Hill to show how your felt, ours either go to games, not bothered any more, watch/listen from home and a few will stand on a Stupid hill in Northampton and show they care.

Loved the AMEX.

It reminded me of what the Ricoh could be if they didn't mess around with the transport.

Although a new stadium, it still had a proper football atmosphere.

It is only the people on the hill who care, this whole super fan thing is starting to get annoying..

To be fair we didn't seem any more split than normal til we moved the club. And only the owners did that. ACL and extreme fans were around before, the defining factor is the one the owners instigated.

Regardless on your views of who is right or wrong, that bit is fairly open and shut.

So who has said that they are a super fan?

It would be much better if people didn't take the piss out of people that go on the hill. It is mainly a few that think not going to Northampton is enough taking the piss out of the people that also refuse to pay to go in, but feel as though they need to so something else. So what if you think it won't get us anywhere. At least they are trying something.

Some think that SISU can afford to pay the bills for years without support and think it is good enough not to go at the same time. This to me is more of a waste of time. All some seem to want to do is cause more division with our own fans.

These same people having a go at the ones protesting on the hill never have better ideas on what they should do themselves other than not going is enough. What is your better idea?

I'm already doing it - I'm isolating myself totally from the club I've followed for 40 years.

Well we've discussed a range of ideas as how to best protest and gain national media interest. Someone's now come up with the brilliant idea of emulating the suffragette movement and throwing themselves under a horse.

Well I suggest next year's Grand National would produce maximum effect so all we need are a few volunteers.

Guys have been reading your replies to my thread. Can I just say a couple of things.

i. Us fans at BHA realised that we had to all stick together to achieve our aims. What galvanised us was a supporter, who is an accountant, went to Companies House and studied the clubs accounts. He found that the then directors had altered the clubs constitution of 1901. This stated that if BHAFC ever folded, the assets, including ground, had to be passed to local charities. This was amended so that the then directors could benefit by selling the Goldstone and keeping the proceeds, which is what they did. The fans were outraged and made them determined the directors would not win in the long term.

ii. Get as much media attention as possible, owners do not like this. As said previously we marched from Victoria Station in London, around Buckingham Palace, up Park Lane and on to FA HQ then at Lancaster Gate, and delivered a massive signed petition. We then attended our match at Fulham. This created much attention and made the football authorities take more notice. Get local council and MPs and local newspaper on board to put your case forcefully.

iii. A stroke of genius was thought up by a Plymouth Argyle fan, Fans United. A date was chosen and fans from every club in England/Wales, Scotland and Europe was invited to one of our matches. It was a fantastic day which was enjoyed by all with scarves of hundreds of different clubs being worn by their supporters. Publicity across UK and Europe was enormous and director's eventually resigned and club taken over by proper fans. We reciprocated this with the Plymouth fans a couple of years ago when they had director troubles.

Am sure you can come up with similar ideas. Anyway, stick together and good luck. Will be keeping an eye on the situation.
