Grimes motm

Sheaf, Wright and bta should be ashamed.

Mve, same as against Plymouth but he had collins in goal to get the abuse. What was he thinking? He could transfer just put it down the line.

Ashamed? A bit harsh me thinks.

BTA clearly struggled and Wright was pretty ineffective. Sheaf worries me when he tries to dribble through players....

But, ashamed? I don't think anyone should be ashamed of their performance tonight

It just didn't click for us and Sunderland defended brilliantly and we ultimately lost to the most daft of backpasses.

Fact remains Wright is our most dangerous striker.
Calls to drop him for the second leg are ludicrous.

This is the same forum where a sizeable percentage wanted to drop Simms for Biamou a few weeks ago.

Dasilva, Grimes, Saka all good.

Sheaf and Wright abysmal.

MvE was good, but, well...

Wilson 5 - meh, don't think he could do much about either goal
MVE 5 - point minus for the mistake, should have kicked it up the field
Kitch 7 - decent I thought. Defended well.
Thomas 6 - not his best, just average.
Dasilva 6 - couple of decent balls, caught out at times defensively.
Grimes 6 - again didn't really show his attacking talent.
Sheaf 5 - meh. Should have scored.
Rudoni 6 - too quiet apart from the goal.
Wright 3 - can I give less, since his hat trick he's been abysmal.
BTA 5 - no service, should have scored the header though.
Sakamoto 8 - probably the best player on the pitch for most of the game. Did disappear later on but still better than most.

Subs:
Allen 6 - extra point for the acrobatics.
EMC 5 - forgot he came on

Sure someone will disagree with me with this. Thought it was a good performance overall but key performers were off it tonight.

How are some fans happy with thst performance honestly can't get my head round it.

We were literally fucking garbage, apart from Thomas, Kitch, Rudoni and DaSilva every one played shit.

Sunderland sat back and exposed us they did fuck all the whole game and beat us 2-1

Unbelievable some of the nieve fans in this forum.

Sheaf and Grimes couldve made a fucking glass eye fall asleep.

All 3 were terrible. Wright did everything half arsed.

They didn't need to defend brilliantly.

Nobody's happy, but it doesn't automatically mean everybody played like clowns, ffs!

And you've rated our best player on the night as 5 out of 10!

Play off semi final in front of a sell out crowd, with literally everything to play for.

Everybody played shite pal, Sakamoto skins a player and automatically is the best player.

I think that Lampard was a little naive with his set up tonight. Sunderland came with a plan to defend and hit us on the break and executed it almost to perfection.
I don't think that anyone had a particularly poor game and would give sixes or sevens to all of them, Grimes edging it for our best player on the night.
Still feeling optimistic going into the second leg, the pressure's off now.

Not ideal Wright having one of his half arsed games. It’s far from over though!

Wilson 6
MVE 5 that's another big mistake when it has mattered
Thomas 6
Kitching 6
Da Silva 7
Sheaf 5 he was unnecessary in the game once it was obvious they were sat behind the ball
Grimes 6 was ok but please don't try that shallow cross again
Rudoni 6 for his goal but was otherwise anonymous
Wright 4 pathetic, he's got to be much more aggressive, so passive
BTA 5 wrong choice and it was obvious from the second minute
Sakamoto 7 played ok but delivery not that good

Classic case of letting a result cloud the ratings instead of performance. That stays 1-1 and everyone gets an extra point there.

Da Silva MOM. Grimes and Saka close behind.

We just pushed too high for the first and the second was a freak error. Other than that we dominated. Still in with a shout.

Wilson 5
Van Erwijk 6
Thomas 6
Kitching 6
DaSilva 7
Sheaf 5
Grimes 7
Rudoni 7
Sakamoto 7.5 motm
Thomas-Asante 6
Wright 4

Mason-Clark 6
Allen 6

Think I would start Allen for Sheaf at SOL. We need more energy. He plays the ball much quicker, which maybe due to not being able to hold the ball as well, but that's what we needed.

Frustrating result. Put Thomas Asante up front and then peppered the box with crosses all night.
Grimes motm. Dasilva and Sakamoto both really good

BTA had fuck all, disagree with the low ratings

Wright was our worst player, I would personally drop him and start EMC

Da Silva, Grimes and Saka played well

If that was Collins people would be shouting it from the rooftops. Wilson also made the strikers mind up for him for the 2nd but obviously not helped by the awful back pass.

Wright was genuinely appalling. He got bullied out of the game early on, and lost every 50/50 challenge against players half his size.

BTA experiment didn’t work. They were too physical for him. With hindsight, Simms should have started.

Grimes and Da Silva had good games.

Sheaf was poor. Again. He is just not a leader; he barely led himself into their half without losing the ball.

Allen looked hungry when he came on, and -considering he ran the midfield in the 3-0 win against Sunderland earlier in the season - probably should have started.

Wilson 6 Ideally he does better for their first goal

MVE 5 As good (and as bad) as he was elsewhere in this game, that may be a career-defining mistake
Thomas 6
Kitching 6
Dasilva 6

Grimes 7 MOTM
Sheaf 5
Rudoni 7

Sakamoto 7 Big call in terms of making him effective on Tuesday
BTA 6 I hoped it would work but we were so direct that he was barely in the game
Wright 6 Probably should have scored

EMC 6 If he’s fit, I would start him on Tuesday, he’s a much better fit for this system
Allen 6 Fair play for the bicycle kick

It’s half-time in a game that we were mostly in control of. I would not expect them to offer much on Tuesday - time for Lampard to show his worth. Didn’t he come back from this same deficit against Leeds with Derby?
