Whats everyone's thoughts regarding them announcing Phil Parkinson as their new manager?

Considering there was talk on their forum that they would like Chris Hughton, Sam Allardyce etc. Or that they could get any manager from a team in League One.

I’d say it’s pretty funny.

Come December they will be begging for Ross back, considering they only lost a couple of games it was extremely harsh sacking him

Parkinson and Parkin Confirmed!

Without the "takeover" they had no money to pay any compensation for an employed manager so had to look who was in the dole office queue.

I hope they like a bad neck and the ball being hoyed forward from the back. They better hope he's allowed some money to sign a target man in Jan.

Long ball football on the way up there then lol tbh Wyke & McNulty should be good enough to get their goals,I think McNulty has been playing number 10 in a 4231

He’s a man with good contacts in the game - should be able to spend some money on some good Non league lads

I can see why clubs at this level would go for Parkinson, he has taken clubs out of this league and, to be honest, I think (although ask me again if we ever play that way and win) I'd rather play ugly football and win than play the way that we do and finish in the bottom half of the table. But, the thing about this is that it shows Sunderland's owners have no vision whatsoever for how they want their team to play as they went from approaching Robins to appointing Parkinson. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but they are polar opposites in their approach.

Ross has also been criticised for defensive play

Sunderland scores 80 goals last season and we scored 54

only 7 scored less and 2 of them were relegated

Yup, I'm in no way saying I think Robins would have done a good job there (I don't think he would have) and I think he's doing a decent job here without being spectacular. I would just be worried if I were a Sunderland fan that their recruitment policy seemed to be to just approach random managers and go from someone who plays out from the back to someone who plays long ball. I have quite enjoyed reading the reactions on their forum though.

To be fair, it's not the worst appointment.

He's had two promotions from L1 already so knows how to get it done.

Sunderland fans have him buried before a ball has been kicked which will work wonders for morale at the club.

They deserve everything they get.

He’ll get them promoted, football is crap and horrible but they’ll win games they won’t be bothered.

then we’ll get the random meltdown on here when they get promoted

This thing about him getting promotions is a bit of a myth isn’t it. His teams are always up there but I think he’s only had 2/3 promotions.

Not really a myth then LG?! Hes done it twice from L1...that's two more than the majority of managers in this league.

You could argue that Bolton was an 'easy one' due to money but he did it with Colchester as well.

Compared to his peers, he's done well at this level.

Is that just two promotions then? His reputation suggests more. He should definitely have taken that Bradford team up.

Maybe as far as Bradford goes but he's still two ahead of the majority of managers in the league.

Overall win percentage of 36.8 (according to wiki) and one of those promotions was one that Bolton would have expected. Couple that with his shithouse brand of football and I'd avoid. Steve Evans has a record of promotions too.

First thing we should do is all write to him and plead with him to put Burge in goal. Watch them plummet down the league.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying...I just don't think it's a bad an appointment as everyone is making out. Do I hope he fails miserably...yep. Do I also think that he's got a good chance of taking them up? Unfortunately, yes.

Good old stats! Wiki does indeed confirm that. That stat also confirms that his win % is higher than all of our managers since Jimmy Hill, bar Curtis/Sillett, Nilsson, Black, Dowie and Robins. In other words, he's statistically better overall than 77% of our managers when managing CCFC.
