I did say I’d rather go out in the semis cos I think we lose to Sheff Utd. But now it’s here it doesn’t feel like that.

No reason we can’t go a turn it around. Will need to play on the front foot. Maybe start two strikers up front and go direct?

Wilson
MVE - Thomas- Kitching - Dasilva
Sakamoto - Sheaf - Grimes - Rudoni
Simms - Wright

Will they sit back or try to finish off. I’d give us a 25% chance of going through to the final.

3-0 them, they'll let us come at them and hit us on the break. Pick us off at will as we go for a goal.

Just go at them from the start and just attack all the way

give Haji a bollocking and if he dosent pull his weight in 20 minutes drag the bastard off.

im a big fan of his but since his hat trick against Sunderland he’s been piss poor and looks so disinterested

it’s play off semi final with a chance to play at Wembley and a chance at the premier league FFS how can you not be up for it?!?!

We haven't got the pace that they attacked us with. Yeah Sakamoto will do his twist and turn but he's not direct.

It's baffling.
Even if you don't give a fuck about the club or the team, (not saying that is the case), surely being part of team that gets promoted is hugely beneficial on a personal level.

I genuinely believe there is a twist in this game yet.

7/2 for us to qualify with BET365

after my £10 punt on Rudi to score a header at 18/1 come in last night is quite tempting

Wright is off form

A few weeks ago he’d have scored that chance at the end

He still has to play though as he’s the only direct outlet with pace that we have

Yeah, was pissed off and wanted him dropped last night.
But in the cold light of day, he clearly has to start and hope he turns up.

Wright just needed to take a shot. He wanted about 8 touches rather than just getting a shot away.

I still contend anything can happen in a sudden death situation.

Is there extra time if the sides are level on goals over the 2 legs, then a penalty shoot out?

Early goal is key. If we can level things up in the first half their fans will not accept them sitting deep and they will be forced to come out of their low block, which if they do I think we will cut through them similar to how we did in the league game.

I can see this going to ET and maybe pens, we’re in for a late one I think ladies & gents.

We need a much higher temp moving forward. It's the only way to get Wright, Saka, EMC space to work in. Otherwise they just get 2 men on them tight when they receive the ball.

Sunderland will play the same way, have we the players capable of breaking down a low block? Our history isn't great.

Whatever, surely Frank now knows we need a proper centre forward, a more forward playing central midfielder as well as defensive cover.

I agree - think we need to go 4-4-2.
I read something about when Lampard was at Derby and they beat Leeds at Elland Rd and he’d been working on some tactical masterclass for the second leg.
Let’s hope he’s got something up his sleeve.

Does last night poor some cold water on the 'Simms doesn't offer anything!' meme? In this system vs. a team sitting deep, I'm convinced that role is sacrificial, and the Wright hat trick made people think it's not.

Felt he should have gone 442 yesterday once it became obvious our normal game plan wasnt effective and we could have had an extra man in the box for the 13,000 crosses and match them man for man over the pitch

Well in fairness simms has been playing all season and offered next to nothing so why does he become prime Batistuta when hes dropped ?

He's being asked to provide defensive cover as well as get forward, probably too big and not athletic enough to do that. He's knackered quickly.
Also we are so slow when he gets the ball he has no space to work in, against defensive setups anyhow.
That said he and Simms remain the enigma they always have been. Quiet, over chilled guys lacking a killer instinct.

but on Tue, for me, we just need to set up at the start in a way that gives us the best chance to play at a high tempo and get the first goal. Two up top maybe.

We can drop in to our normal shape after that if we want and try to control the game. Don't know how you do that without subs but meh, that's my take.

but we got results and scored plenty with him in the side. I'm not claiming he was doing anything amazing but we did well enough while he was starting.

I think both things can be true at the same time. This system clearly does not rely on a striker firing on all cylinders to score goals, but Simms has not been playing well either.

Let me show you something that will alter how you feel about " we get results because of 1 player " mentality

We should drop rudoni wright Thomas and sheaf immediately

Think a lot will rest on how Sunderland setup. If they decide they're happy to put 10 men behind the ball and defend a one goal lead then I fear we will approach the game the same way given Lampard's post match comments. If we do saw nothing yesterday, or in the other games where teams have been happy to settle for a draw, to make me think we can come up with anything to counter that.

However if they decide they need to push forward and win on the night to be more comfortable then I think that plays into our hands and gives us a chance.

Either way we need Lampard and the coaches to have plans in place for multiple scenarios. And, as much as I dislike it, if we need it have Wilson go down after 20 minutes so Lampard can give his instructions based on how Sunderland have started.

MvE Thomas Kitching DaSilva

Sheaf Grimes

Sakamoto Rudoni Mason-Clark

Wright

After an hour if it's still 0-0 then you bring Simms or BTA on and go two up top imo
