Does he have injury/attitude problems or something? Seems weird for a 25 year old who was once highly thought of at Brighton to be without a club this late. There’s got to be mid/lower La Liga or Serie A clubs who’d take him, unless he’s just dropped off massively.

Wonder if we can re look at the wage structure. Feels painful to miss out on key players if there slightly over an arbitrary limit. Happy the club are being responsible however with the long term finances.

This is the question, isn't it. Can anything be done to restructure. I've no idea on that side of things, but it's a question you ask yourself. However, fully agreed with how the long term finances are being protected.
As much as some people don't like it, we are making some smart moves. There's definitely potential profit in some of these signings, with the right development, we have more than one Hamer / Gyokeres type player on our hands. We are not in a position to be signing finished articles yet (imo).
I do feel that we should have picked up a more experienced head / free agent to bridge the gap in midfield, until we can land the type player we are after. Again, it's what wage they would demand and what length of contract.

At this point it would have made sense to keep Kelly for another year, which is an utterly ridiculous position to be in.

Not sure about that. I’d rather see Andrews get some game time. Kelly was a long way off the pace.

As well as sell on values of talent we have we also still have Gyokeres and Hamer sell ons in the background. But the question stands - if you aren’t going to break wage structures the amount of cash you have is less of a factor

Agreed. You'd like to think as we continue to grow, that it's something that will be integrated at a faster pace.

Hamer’s unlikely now I’d say, if he was ever going to move it would have been in the summer. Sheffield United will be challenging back to PL and he’d only attract a club going down.

Yes let them go all out information, give step by step updates on who they want, how much etc just to appease some fans who cant cope with not knowing. If you genuinely beleive they didnt go after a midfielder, even after what Jimmy and others have said, then i despair. Transfers take time. If you had your way we would sign any oold shite player just to fill yourr quota. What happens then is fans like you maon how shite they are and we start all over again.
Well... that's clearly not what I said now is it. I merely suggested that the club might want to consider how damaging the odd unreliable transfer rumour is. Transfer hype is part of the football experience - the information space is an important part of keeping fans hooked. Transfer deadline day is generally an exciting time. It was pretty flat on here on Friday and that has carried over.

And what is this tripe about 'my quota'? I literally stated that if a deal can't be done, I get it. If you can dig up one example of me ever complaining about how sh1t a player/manager/coach/staff member is then I will let you have a biscuit. Otherwise jog on.

Robins said that we went after a young premier league player on loan, but it fell through at the last moment due to an injury.
That could of easily been the injury to Matty Cash.

Conflicted because it really does feel like 2020 minus Hamer. But can see sense to get some leadership and know how into the centre of the park

I’d get him in but it’s a complete admission of failure in recruitment.

100% sign him on a 1 year contract. Especially if Sheaf is out for any sort of period of time

Intresting. Any idea why after playing 40 odd games for Bristol city they let him go?

I get the feeling that Robins wasn’t being truthful when he said Sheaf would possibly be back for Watford.

Conflicted on this but would bring premier league experience to our midfield to help kick on Eccles and Torp. Good back up option for sheaf. Basically a slightly better Liam Kelly. Could be worth a one year with the option of another. Also knows the club and manager so should settle down quick. If we’re doing it tho, we should do it now so he can get two weeks in.

I know James played 40 games for Bristol last season but it smacks of desperation for me.

Another body and experience maybe, but I don't consider him any better than Eccles.

He’s not any better than Eccles. But imagine if Eccles got injured at the moment - we’d be in dire straits. Adds great experience as well.

It's the leadership we're desperate for. That player who can see things, pull players back into position, encourage, player to look up to, etc. Matty James isn't going to take 3 players on or rainbow flick over their head, but he'll do what we're crying out for.

They have but it's like people claiming we should have kept Kelly and McFadzean.
Neither are good enough for our bench but we are desperate for experience.

For what it's worth, James was great for us in 2021 but that's a time when we were relying on the likes of Shipley and he looked a level above.

Interestingly, James missed 10 games for Bristol City last season. Their record in those games was P10 W1, L9

Apparently we considered him the week before the deadline, but at that time we had permanent targets and wasn't it pursued.

We are crying out for leadership and experience. Quality is less of an issue, we are outside the window. There aren’t going to be any Championship quality players still knocking about without serious issues. James is a known quantity and even if he doesn’t play would be useful around the dressing room IMO and worth the wage for that alone. We are so lacking in leadership.
