With respect I think this is a little naive.

King only gets a bumper return when we are a. Premier League Club and own our own stadium.

no one is paying him top dollar for a championship club with short term stadium lease.

Oh and he seems to be full committed and loving it to me …:

Well, I suppose we’ll just have to sign Alzate then.

Despite the negativity I'm hearing the recruitment team has been working tirelessly and are closing in on their primary target, 4 standing tickets for Oasis at Heaton Park.

Really don’t get why some people are defending the fact we haven’t signed a new CM, like everything is all rosy with our midfield.

We’ve played Stoke, Bristol and Oxford so far, all teams I would expect to be mid-table or below, and it’s not like we’ve smashed all of them 4-0. When we come up against some proper quality our midfield is going to struggle as it always does when we’re pressed efficiently. Okay it’s no good moaning about Doug or lack of transfers now but equally it’s ridiculous to think that we’re somehow in decent shape in midfield.

we now need some loan signings I feel. Not sure we have enough in midfield to get us to January?

We were talking about Robins sticking around not king. He might sell us, who knows My point is that if Robins made the play offs once or twice and didn’t get promoted that doesn’t mean he’d be automatically sacked. I think the main things will be; are we sustainable ie king not having to blow millions personally to stand still and are we challenging/in the mix

the January window is not one to pin hopes on

v rarely does it bring in any real quality

not utilising the loan market is a mistake too

Thank god for that-the bullshit, speculation and whispers have ended!

Now we can get on with shitting our pants at how terrible we played and wetting the bed at how we’d have gone up if we’d have bought a midfielder.

Sometimes you just have to step back, take in what we have and enjoy it.

We have another competitive team in a very challenging division, we’ll see us win more times than we lose and we’ll be up there in the hunt for promotion right till the end.

Can’t spunk it all in a vain attempt for glory-rather build incrementally so we have the quality to stay up when we get promoted (and we will).

Absolutely no doubt in my mind that we’ll reinforce the midfield next year.

Maybe because we are not ungrateful entitled pricks.

Our club is unrecognisable to the one we had just 2 years ago, on and off the pitch.

That doesn't mean people can't point out where there are currently issues with the team/squad.

Midfield recruitment has been a fuck up.

great post. And another poster mentioned look at our side v Norwich today to the side and their side to the games when first back in the championship. It’s chalk and cheese. All done organically without over spending and stupid behaviour.

we haven’t sold one of our star players this summer and because we didn’t sign one midfielder we are losing our minds. It’s crazy.

Of course it doesn’t but the degree of reaction is OTT.

We have kept all of our best players, added 7 new perm signings at circa £15m of cost.

Yes it looks like we missed out on one of our midfieid targets ( we signed one too ) and I have no doubt in January that will be corrected

fuck up is harsh. Im sure we tried and yes I have criticisms also. Such as why not exploit the loan market if budget is tight. But we didn’t lose our best player and captain Ben sheaf. It’s not the management teams fault he is made of glass. But when we have him we know we are a very good team.

Yeah but I’m annoyed we’ve let Palmer go out the door without a replacement. Although im happy for him to go, he is our spark at the moment!

If we lose today it's going to be an absolute mess on here later.

If he’s fell out with the manager as has been suggested, you just have to get him out of the door.

It’s as simple as that, so there’s not much point dwelling on replacing a player that was a bench player for us.

We are a loss making business seeking to invest in the club. You can’t let million £ assets leave for free in 9 months time. That money is needed for January.

Yeah I know and they didn’t want to miss out on cashing in with 1 year left and I’m sure they had ions in the fire but I’ve woke up to seeing we’ve signed no one to strengthen our midfield that clearly needs reinforcing and it’s shit.

if we spank Norwich I’ll feel better but the jury’s out on Torp, Eccles and Allen for me.

The club are the ones who’ve set the high expectations. All the noise pre-season was that we were going to make a proper go of it this year. Forget where we’ve come from or what our squad looked like 5 years ago or whatever, things change very quickly in football. I think it’s fair enough to be disappointed with this window, the squad is looking light in a couple of key areas. We’ve got a good team, not disputing that, but based on performances so far we really are hinging a lot on Sheaf making a big difference to our midfield once fit, and of course him actually staying fit all season.

yeah, also with Burnley in the league there was only ever 1 auto place open anyway.

Yes we could do with more depth in midfield but as i have said we can field a really strong first XI if all fit and if we lose midfielders we'll adapt.

Maybe we'll even start bypassing the midfield a bit and going longer to the brilliant forwards we have quicker.

I'm not sure it is harsh to be honest. We look very light in that area, especially when you consider Sheaf's injury record (which the club will have the best view of). It could all be fine, but it doesn't look like a particularly good way to go into the first half of the season as we are keeping fingers crossed on a few points now.

One thing that i'm unsure of and that might help is whether we can still make loan signings? Or has that window also closed? I seem to recall there being different permanent and loan windows in years past?
