Leeds fans seem pretty convinced he'll be off by the end of the window, believing he might actually push for a move. Puts the owners in a difficult position if that does happen.

Although likely a very emotive POV as it's all very the end of the world is nigh on their forum at the minute.

Yet have aspirations of Top 6?

We've had the same issue now for a year, 3 windows. We do not have someone good enough to keep us ticking over without weetabix Sheaf. Let alone alongside him

That's why I'm miserable, it cost us last season and it will cost us this if we don't sort it

Completely with Saddle on this one, yes we’ve strengthen our depth in attack but the midfield and defence is still lacking.

You’d think after 3 windows we’d have had a bit more quality come in at midfield. It’s the crucial area of the pitch and the part that consistently lets our performances down whenever we end up not winning. It’s hard to get excited about a season when the only defensive midfield options outside Sheaf are Allen, Eccles and Torp.

wasn't that just bullshit. seems odd that there would be a buyout set to expire in the middle of a window. seems a bit fishy to me

Pretty standard time for a buyout clause to expire as it gives the selling club time to replace the outgoing player.

Rutter's (Leeds) release clause expired last night at midnight, hence why Brighton have come in last minute.

Having read the wording on Hamer’s release fee I took it to mean that it expires when this window shuts.

And what if the right players aren't available / don't want to join / join Nottingham Forest at the last minute?

What are we supposed to do about that?

Buy the wrong players for the sake of it?

Well that’s why Stamenic was about to be signed for millions. It’s not like the club isn’t trying, and we also all know exactly how it would go down if we then just went for any old player to add numbers who was then an expensive waste of a squad space.

MR despite his conversion to Southgate insomnia cures can still see what the rest of us see.

The wording was pretty elusive but apparently it definitely has expired, well Sheffield United fans are pretty confident anyway. Apparently it was set to expire 21 days prior to the end of the window so there was sufficient time to replace.

I think they put all their eggs in the same basket where Stamenic was concerned and probably missed out on the ones further down the list due to being fuck over by him.

I’ve been a Cov fan for more than 40 years. It’s never been about being entitled. In fact it’s been the exact reverse.

defying the odds to stay in the top division season after season, dropping through the leagues with crap owners, finishing higher than our wage bill suggested we should.

being a Cov fan is about hope, aspiring for more, but not feeling entitled.

I can’t remember feeling this positive about the club for over 20 years …. Would 2 more quality signings improve us ? Yes of course but I still see it as another summer of progress on and off the pitch. Maybe I will feel differently when the window shuts, but right now I feel positive and hopeful and certainly not entitled.

I’ve been reading this thread all summer without contributing much. I’m amazed by how much people repeat the same thing. The generally accepted position is that we need another defender and another midfielder. People are so desperate for signings. There’s one guy on here who says we need a CM and a backup RB multiple times a day!

My view is that we have a very good squad, stronger than I can remember since the Prem days I reckon.

Everyone is up in arms because Allen played against Stoke and wasn’t great. I actually thought he was good in the half hour between half time and their goal. He was poor first half I agree. Sheaf is injured and Eccles may have been too. It’s ok though, Allen is an experienced player who is a reasonable backup. It doesn’t mean we can’t go up because he is in our squad. We got to the playoff final with him in the squad. It’ll be ok if we don’t sign anyone. We’ll have a good season in which we’ll have some great games and some poor ones. We are 1 game in. I like the squad and am happy if we keep it as it is.

CM is absolutely an area we need to recruit . Would be satisfied with a loanee at RB

Not all of them cost a fee. Some clubs want their young players to get game time. Obviously have to pay some wages.

Getting annoyed about signings that haven’t happened yet is one thing from the ITK era we could do without.

The ideal is like, say, Callum Doyle who had a season in L1 with Sunderland before stepping up to the champ with us as a loanee.

I think the issue for me with academy loans is that they are always markedly better the second season.

Sheaf and Maartsen are 2 such examples ….

To the people that are desperate for a CM - is it numbers or quality you're concerned about?

I think numbers wise we're OK and if we do sign a CM then we'll have to move someone on (Allen or Palmer).

At the moment we have 6 players for 3 positions which seems like reasonable depth, 7 might be too much?
