I'm pleased we have the depth its much needed and should definitely help us as it was our chilled heel last year

But we are still quite clearly missing a quality midfielder and solid centre half to improve the 11

I guess for me the point is we’re in a different position now. For a long time our summers were replacing loans and the one or two saleable assets we had. “Is our starting 11 better” was a perfectly reasonable question. We’ve moved on now. A classic example is Simms. Are we likely to buy a striker that is nailed on to get 20 goals that would improve the starting 11. No. Costs too much and we already have one. But is Thomas-Asante better than Godden. Yes. Our squad is stronger and so more of our starting 11’s will be.

No - I think even if we had the transfer fee we still wouldn't have done this deal - because the wages wouldn't fit our structure and he'd expect/want to play every game. He'd be 2nd choice and it just doesn't add up for us - or him.

The reason we were poor on Saturday in the first half is that they were direct, pressed harder and and bypassed the midfield by using the flanks. As soon as I saw the midfield on paper it looked light weight. We were better in the second half without penetration but that was more to there fitness than our football. We do need a further option in midfield, Rudoni will not make the difference in the forward areas we need if he is having to drop deep to get the ball. We don't necessarily need a tough tackler we need someone capable of receiving the ball on the half turn and then finding our attack minded midfielder's or forwards. Sky commentator Chris Iwelumo made the point our midfielders all took the ball square on which means you are closed down easier and your only get out ball is back. IS that better coaching for defenders and midfielders or the need for a player of that style. I personally think we need a player of the style as both Sheaf and Eccles can sit deep so would only play one of them so Sheaf when fit.

I know people are quick to throw out the enforcer and hard man stuff, but in all seriousness we are too soft as a team. Thomas and Eccles are probably the only two that really get stuck in (off the top of my mind) and it counts for something that you can stand up for yourself and as a team. We don't do that enough, and we get bullied too often, last season it happened a lot. We saw it on Saturday too.

I think we need to toughen up a bit. I expect it won't happen, but I certainly welcome a couple of players to come in that can do the dirty work and not shy away when things get physical.

To be honest we don’t need an enforcer, just don’t play Allen, Torp and Rudoni as the three

Where's the story about him wanting out by the way? All I can find is potentially Stoke (shock) wanting a swap with Lewis Baker

I thought he was a really good pundit alongside the commentator, made some very astute observations and wasn't overly biased towards Stoke

Yes it has.

Compare the starting line up 12 months ago versus now.

Dovin is an upgrade on Wilson.
Binks is a better CB than Fadz or Lati.
MVE is better than Eccles at RWB.
Rudoni appears better than Palmer.

Hamer, Fadz and Godden are the only players that started against Leicester which are no longer here and have suitably been upgraded.

Sheaf is the only other absentee from the Leicester game, due to injury.

IMO we don’t need too many more players.

I’d like another CM, someone who will do all the hard running and link the CB’s to our midfield. Jamie Allen is not at the level for me and is the player in need of an upgrade.

If our centre mid options were Sheaf, Torp, Eccles, Rudoni and a proper 6 I would feel much better that we have adequate cover for when Sheaf isn’t available.

Ideally if we could get a six in with leadership qualities who can manage the game and be dependable in the challenging moments it would help with another issue in which we are currently struggling with.

We will sign a CM which I understand will be from Europe. Stamenic was our primary target this summer and even if he had come in we’d still have signed Rudoni. We’ll be waiting to try and get the right one and we may have missed out on others. Clearly we’ve been interested in bringing in a CB as well so I’m sure they’ll be movement before the end of the window. We remain interested in Joe Worrell.

If this pans out I think I’d be okay with this, the issue with Worrell is the wages he’d likely command and a midfielder from Europe will need time to bed in which we don’t have time for.

You mentioned Latibeaudiere could be picked, in an "emergency". Really playing Allen anywhere in midfield is an emergency. In the very realistic scenario where Sheaf and Eccles could be unavailable, we'd be looking at a situation where we're trying to win games with "emergency" selections.

I think my pre season concerns that received last laughing emojis from the usual suspects are not so funny anymore.

CM CB and no first teamers leaving and we might be able to push for top 6. Our first 11 is worse than last season and cannot get us from 9th to 6th unfortunately

Not sure about that , we lost " O'Hare" , but we do need another CM player.

I agree with the sentiment here. There’s no doubt our squad is much stronger, but have we replaced Hamer, Gyokeres, or a fully fit O’Hare? Have we got that spark that turns us from a solid top half of the table team, to a top 6/autos team? Perhaps Rudoni or EMC will provide that spark, time will tell, let’s hope so.

I wonder if you'll still think he's inferior to O'Hare at the end of the season.
I think he has the potential to be better. Different, but better.

Disagree with this. O’Hare only started 18 games. Don’t think he was the world beater we at times made him out to be. Think Jack is the perfect replacement and we’ll see the best of him at the end of the year. We do need a CM tho even if it’s a sheaf understudy

Perhaps some of our older posters on here should be cut a bit of slack rather than spoken to like naughty school children. Not every one on this forum has had to undergo DEI training and I don't think its a pre requisite to join. Folks should be careful as these type of hurty word scenarios have a habit of biting individuals on the arse.

They are very similar at this moment in time, if you have to judge on potential though Rudoni will be better.

I've been struck by certain deliveries of his crosses, seems to have a quality that gives the ball more air time on it, nearly got Assanti on one of them?

I’d like to hope this isn’t true as otherwise he runs the risk of becoming a bit of a sell out, chasing the money rather than establishing himself as a great player.

In my humble opinion he should be looking to establish himself somewhere in a successful team where he’s going to shine and earn himself that big move to a top half Prem or European team, and he’s not going to do that flitting between the next team to get promoted only to (probably) come straight back down again. Probably better staying at Sheff Utd another season or two if that’s the case as more chance he’ll stand out and get the move he might want.

OR fulfil the prophecy and come back home to single handedly guide us to automatic promotion - that would also work

Is there an expiry date on his release clause from relegation? I am sure I read that SU fans were celebrating because a certain date had passed unless the heat has got to me?

It's almost like a club, premier league that is, wait until a player gets more expensive and furnish SU with funds?

There might be but from experience if he wants to go he is going and the current club won’t be getting in the way.
