I wonder whether Matty James on a 1 year deal might be an option. Don't know where he's at fitness wise but knows the club, would provide leadership, good character and a bit of physicality.

Would hope we've moved way past him as a target

Haha. I thought this wouldn't be welcome. Everyone loves a few million dropped on a foreign unknown signing but I honestly think he actually ticks a few boxes for what we need around the team at the min. Not necessarily a starter but some who could fill in when Sheaf is injured. Maybe start 10-15 games.

Nothing matches him to what the recruiting department are looking for. And if thats not enough, he is high risk, no reward signing not going to happen.

Who mentioned any unknown foreign signings? Nothing to do with it - it's just a crap suggestion

I think we've definitely passed the likes of Matt James as a transfer target, even if his injury record wasnt as bad, so I wouldn't take him as for the lad from Liverpool Clark, he looks good and technical but I'd rather we go for the likes of Madsen or Bernede who we can sign on a 4 year deal, he'll be our player and not devolping a youngster for Liverpool who'll go back at the end of the season.

I know others on here who'd probably disagree and be keen for the lad to join us however I just think there's so much untapped talent in the European leagues for us to sign IMO.

He was a very intelligent short term signing at the time and I think we would have been relegated that season without him. But he is not what we need now.

Would be a very good signing, it seemed like his move abroad was pretty much done and dusted, plus he was at the baggies with BTA so that would help him settle in if we went for him

I didn't want us to sign him after the loan. Hamer and Sheaf were better, but we needed his experience short term that season.

Ao Tanaka would be my shout from Fortuna Dusseldorf, looks brilliant from the admittedly limited footage I have seen of him. Played against Ipswich last week though, and their fans said he was the best player on the pitch.

Signed for Reims in France in July, would have been an excellent signing for us.

Those that take comfort that if we sell Simms or Sheaf or Wright it doesn’t matter because look how we are now having sold Vik need to understand the principle of diminishing returns.

We had a poor squad with poor quality players and the benefit from selling Vik and Hamer was huge. We reinvested the money to strengthen the entire squad.

However if we were to sell Simms now for £12m for example we would need to spend at least 50%-75% on his replacement not to go backwards which leaves perhaps enough for a full back or a CDM.

We might be marginally stronger as a squad but the big step changes have gone and if you got the Simms replacement wrong you go backwards quickly.

King, Austin and Robins will understand this which makes the next few weeks interesting for sure.

IF Wright is unhappy or Sheaf gets the Premier offer he wants it will be a huge test for the club.

You can't turn down double figures for sheaf of he goes for free next year I don't think.

It's same situation as hamer last year

Why would we sell Simms for £12m though? It would be more like £25m with his age, nationality, and time left on his deal.

Heard second hand that we're in buying a midfielder who played with MVE previously, though not the usual source for this one. I believe that player must be Madsen.

Sheaf definitely off? Such a shame, he's been pivotal to our progression. He just keeps getting better and better, so comfortable under pressure and on the half turn. Would have suited us even better this season with dovin and his distribution into midfield. Gutted if he moves on.

Is Madsen a similar player to Sheaf?

For anyone who knows.
