Most fans wont have had Kelly in their best 11, but he played a lot of games at the end of the last 2 seasons when others were injured or spent. Teams that finish at the top dont have their players constantly playing 90 minutes Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday.

I'm surprised this is news to people. Can't put my finger on it right now but Robins was quite clear early last season that his role in transfers was quite limited. I found it a little worrying then; probably best not to over think it now.This suggests that robins probably doesn't have full say on transfers anymore

EMC lacks championship experience but excelled last season in league 1.
Raphael lacks any experience but has bags of potential and is hungry to prove himself.
Contrast the above with bringing in experienced players who may now be injury prone, and are just looking for a pay day.
Remember, we are looking to develop and improve players, that's our M.O.

Why are you wondering about Doug ?We need to go for it this season otherwise it will be a rebuild next season again because Simms, Wright, Sheaf will all be gone, happy with what we have done so far but need more players in, beginning to wonder about our Doug, no good going for playoff's or a cup run, concentrate on auto's , a tall order i know but its our only chance

As it stands this is the best squad we have had since 2001. I'd even be tempted to say it's better than that and would give the 99/00 team a run for it's money.
There is work to do but the stamenic chasing shows they are aware of that and there is money to spend on the right targets.
As it stands we have a good enough team for a shot at the playoffs, 3, 4 in and we are looking auto contenders.

If it’s all true (and he’s not just trying to word things nicely for the lads in the squad) then it is pretty concerning that we’ll have no proper backup RB, no decent GK, no backup ST, no new CM or backup to Sheaf and no new LB.
We’ll basically have the same squad as last season just with Rudoni swapped in for O’Hare and some new cover on the wings, that’s a very minor improvement imo. If that’s all we get then that basically means the exact same issues of transition from defence to attack and no cover for players like Sheaf or MVE if they get injured, not to mention the fact we’ll have a lovely choice between Collins and Wilson in goal…

Obviously we have players like Eccles and a few others, who have a lot of Championship games under their belt, and know what they’re doing - it’s just having that cool, experienced veteran’s head in the team, that can make a huge difference in certain situations.

He reminds me of Mortimer before he went to the Villa and we know how that turned out.He's far better than that. And only Wright had more assists than him and only by one which isn't bad for a holding midfield player. Most of his good work goes unnoticed by many because he didn't cost a few million and doesn't have a fancy foreign name.
Then Yorath was shipped out as he had too much influence in the dressing room.Yes I agree, I would add Sheaf and Eccles to that. I remember Coventry signing Terry Yorath who was a leader and an obvious Captain. At the time he was a similar age to Sheaf with a similar amount of appearances.
Age isn't the only measure of experience. Drive and maturity are also important attributes.
