Those that think this transfer window is boring have very short memories. I hope that it remains quiet and all inward transfers arrive well under the radar.

I also hope that any signings arrive under the radar to avoid being poached, but with regards to those people that have short memories, I think with the trajectory that the club’s on we should be expecting (or at least hoping for) significant signings.

I don’t think it’s beneficial for us as a fanbase to sit back and expect nothing because “that’s what we’ve been used to”. The reason we’ve been in the doldrums is because we were underfunded and lacked numerous quality players, if we want to be the big club that we all think we are then we have to expect quality signings. I get that we can’t break the bank and sign every player under the sun but surely we should expect a bit more quality coming through the doors than what we’ve had so far this window. We’ll only get to the prem if we aim big.

Would be a brilliant signing. Loads of potential.

I agree, I think Jebbison is one of the few young championship players that would be worthwhile investing in, tall and quick, just needs a bit of improvement and I reckon he’ll be decent.

I wonder why he turned down an extension to his contract, seems strange to risk being picked up by a worse team and potentially being on a lower wage at this stage in his career.

Agree his peak is now - this would be his biggest contract - big risk to gamble another season in sporting.

the club will know what’s going on however I’m sure on that front.

be handy if hamer went sharpish also.

Sporting are apparently giving him a pay rise too.

In the absence of Gyokeres and/or Hamer moving where do you think the money would come from for more multi million pound signings?

Since the start of the year we have bought Torp, Mason-Clark, Binks and Rudoni all for substantial fees with no major sales.

Perhaps the club know a substantial Vik sale is inevitable at some point maybe after this window. If they know the money will come in regardless they'd be preemptive as to not ruin our window/season by skimping on transfers (like how our Hamer replacement never came).

I expect he is going to Sheffield United, however they are apparently under investigation so may be prolonged

Surely that's just common sense. They couldn't budget for having money they may not get

Not necessarily. COH still hasn't signed anywhere. Lots of free agents weighing up options still, it's a big decision particularly at Browne's age.

I knew it! I saw your name in my notifications and said to myself “money” Are you an accountant or something?

But yeah what T&B said above, plus we made a little bit last year from transfers, extra ticket sales from FA cup run (?), more season tickets and merchandise, maybe the new sky sports deal gives us some extra cash (not sure on that one), we’ve got rid of few players off the wage bill, and maybe Doug just thinks it’s a good opportunity to go for it and invests the cash himself? He’s got a 5 year plan of which I think we’re in year 2 I think (?), so maybe he’s thinking invest now, get the Vik money at some point, sell Van Ewijk next season for triple the value, Sheaf still worth a bit if needs be?

I think there’s a lot of routes to revenue out there, the main goal being get into the prem and “win” £150-£200 mil. I personally think that’s worth an £8-£12 mil investment and now is the absolute best time to do it.

CCFC: brings in players signed for c. £8m
SBT: boring! did I mention this is boring?

No one's been sold. We've signed players in areas we needed them. If the season started tmrw, we're in good shape. Better than any season I can remember.

Assuming Dovin signs, one CM and that's us done by mid July. Wright, Simms, Tavares cover the middle fine for me. No loans. If this is boring, I'm into it.

We need to sign more than 2 players. Our squad was tiny last season and as things stand we’re currently net 0 in terms of ins/outs.

Sure but quality / potential is improving with the replacements. With the exception of COH, there's nobody that's really "regrettable".

There will be more signings but so far so good.

But what if he does an ACL or something - it would be a big risk to spend money that only might/should come in.

I honestly don’t think we need all this. We have players who can do jobs currently. So unless they go like godden I wouldn’t expect too many signings. A keeper and a striker are a priority but the rest is a luxury. We still have Allen and lats who can at least do jobs.

One thing we can agree on is experience. We need that Doyle/browne type figure who can be nasty and horrible when things get tough. We really aren’t street wise enough atm.

that’s a good thing. Keep it in house.

also as another poster said… waiting for the Vik money. It’s not an insignificant figure which would really help us. Though we shouldn’t plan around it per se.

Very dangerous to assume that Gyokeres will eventually go for a big fee. He could lose form or get a serious injury. Maybe before your time but there have been instances in the past where we have bought players in the expectation of getting big fees for one of our players. Larry Lloyd was one such case.

It's funny how people on here go on about other teams overspending, yet expect an endless supply of multi million pound signings. Mason-Clark, Torp, Binks and Rudoni cost about £10 million combined and we haven’t sold anyone.

On the so called Hamer replacement we bought in a whole range of players, most of whom were successful using the money from his and Gyokeres' fees. You can never get an exact replacement and indeed other areas were more of a priority. This was proved to be right as midfield was generally our best position last season.

Clearly we need a keeper but unless we sell someone like Sheaf, van Ewijk, Simms and/or Wright I can't see us buying another midfielder or spending millions again this summer. If we couldn't afford minor additions in January when we were fifth in the table and knew we had a fixture pile up coming up we're hardly likely to do so now and wreck the long term future of the club.

I'd argue if we want a proper go at promotion we absolutely do need them as a minimum. The quality of the depth in them positions is poor

They were hoping to have Lati and Palmer back by end of this week, Haji by end of next so unsure if that's changed

We need more depth and quality of depth. If we are going to give it a crack, when need those 4 positions saddle mentions. Maybe Burroughs will do job as RB/LB hybrid back up for now - but GK, CH, CM, ST are a 100% must.

I agree it’s not great but it’s not as easy to get rid of 3 poor players and bring in 3 ok ones as squad players.
Take the striker for example it’s going to be hard to convince a striker coming in you are back up to simms but might come on every now and then. Obviously we do need one though. Something a bit different when we need a goal. Pace for example

Can’t believe that some people think this has been a brilliant transfer window so far

We’ve currently got the exact same defence as last year (which was widely bashed for being leaky) and we’ve not bolstered our defensive midfield line. Rudoni is fine but I think he’s more of an O’Hare type than a Stamenic/Sheaf/Eccles type. What happens if Sheaf gets injured again? What about rotation or injury to Rudoni? We all happy playing Palmer? What about the LB debacle? What if Van Ewijk gets injured or needs resting? Most importantly, what about just having genuine depth and quality subs that we can bring on to turn a game around? In no way has this been a great transfer window so far
