Others were making out that was solely conducted by Boddy.

These things will always be a team effort, DB would be a key part of that team along with MR.

Tbh SBB the same situation will apply
Only Mark Robins makes that decision
He will decide if he wants to keep a player, look at the available budget and decide what we can offer to extend or renew a contract
Then he'll pass it over to the admin team to do the paperwork and signatures etc.
I think most people accept that Robins has complete control of anything to do with the first team
It's different for the U23 and youth players of course

So Boddy signs off on transfers simply for administration purposes?

We are a team on the up and Sisu are no fools ( no I am not a fan of them ) but to start selling the best striker we have had for many a year is just plain stupid, O'Hare for all his lack of goals is one of our better players and his work rate alone is paramount to our play but to start selling them cheaply so Robins has to start again is crazy

Not purely administration purposes. You're looking for a very black and white answer here. Boddy is ultimately responsible for setting budget, and that would include setting guidelines around spend on individual players, contract lengths, etc. Negotiation then performed through agents. But nothing would be done without Robins say so.

Essentially yes
And that would be the situation at most clubs apart from those where you have a wealthy owner who involves themselves in day to day things like this
Of course some wealthy owners like Abramovich have their own version of Dave Boddy within a club but you can be sure they would report back before making really big commitments

Massive difference between that and suggesting he's vital to bringing players in and retaining players which are both absurd comments.

Club at all levels are well aware that in the past we've sold at the wrong time for the wrong fee. Hopefully they've learned but ultimately there will always be pressure to balance the books.

Of course, and I've probably come in half way through a conversation here. The point is really that a number of people would be involved in decision making. DB & MR included.

Of course which is what I insinuated. However others seemed to think he took the lead which is baseless rubbish.

Che Adams scored 22 and went for £15m and Armstrong scored something similar and went for the same amount so maybe I'm wrong.

I just have zero confidence in the board to negotiate those kind of deals.

It was quoted in the CT. They must've got it from somewhere as Boddy didn't exactly jump to retract it.

No but it's ridiculous to openly quote such figures in the press, anyone with a brain knows that. Clubs will do their due diligence if they're looking to recruit a player and if they pick up on it, it doesn't look great. Even Robins quite obviously thought it was idiotic as he wanted no association to the comments made.

I do actually agree with Grendal. I don't particularly think Boddy is a great CEO (granted better than what we've had but that's not particularly hard).

If you actually take a step back and look his job has been made 100x easier by the work Robins and the backroom staff have done over the past 4+ years on the pitch.

We rely heavily on commercial revenue and if we are to maximise that we need someone far better at the helm as he does little to generate further income beyond the traditional means.

I take then you have considerable experience as a CEO?

From my perspective I think the club is managed within the following structure:

The overall budget for the club is allocated from SISU level.
The allocation of cost centre budgets is determined by the Senior management team....which will be Fisher Chair, MR for playing side & player support services & DB for admin, academy and facilities.

MR will allocate the budget as he sees fit.

As for negotiating player transfers, etc. I expect specialist agents are used.

Finally, in terms of bids for players - I wonder if Sheaf was the subject of a bid? Regarding O'Hare I would guess that there is a clause in his contract allowing a club to discuss a transfer if it reached a certain level. The fee suggested in the CET could well have been planted by an agent, who'll be looking for some commission from a transfer.
Hamer - if he doesn't sign a new contract the club would need to sell this summer, as losing him for £0 would be reckless.
Gyo - as the clubs emerge from a year of trading with crowds back in the grounds. I expect transfer fees to return to pre-pandemic levels. As he's on track for 20 goals that would rate him at £8 - £10m+ depending on competition for his signature.

Doesn't Sandra Garlick do most of the player contracts? I highly doubt Boddy does the salary/bonus structure completely by himself either. Haven't got a clue who would take the lead with that. Badlan? Not that that's particularly difficult anyway as it will be largely dictated by player agents and what they consider is fair.

Well he cocked up the first set of negotiations so again I'm not really all for giving him credit for something that shouldn't have really happened in the first place.

What credit is there to give him? A few 'an evening with' dinners which he hasn't really bothered in picking up again? It's bizarre how you think he's doing a spectacular job when he's literally doing the bare basics.

You have absolutely no idea. Sandra Garlick leading on contracts says it all

Which he’s entitled to say but I asked what evidence he had to back this up? He then said he doesn’t have any role in anything other than selling players for low prices, hawking them around in the press, responsible for moving us to Birmingham, responsible for the commercial side of the business that doesn’t work but not for the bits that do. Prejudice pure and simple

He has to get credit for negotiating the return
He has to get credit for overseeing the last 4 years.
Clearly there is more that could be done and facts of what could be done better without having to make stuff up

I’m not even a huge fan of his I just think to say he’s shi at his job without backing it up and saying he’ll let players go for cheap is bollocks

You’re talking to someone who took personal offence on behalf of Chris Badlan not even for ‘shit’ but ‘not brilliant’.

Seems to me though Boddy is just a more acceptable yes man there to carry out orders

Sad to say this, as i think he has the potential to be a club legend, but i'd take 10 million for Gyokores in the summer. We have a ready made replacement in Godden and it seems both of them can score goals on their own without relying on each other. That's a huge amount of money that we could use towards our progression. Fuck it, flog Hamer'ed for 2 million and we can build a proper good squad to challenge at the playoffs. When did it all of a sudden become fun being a City fan?

1 out of Vik, O hare or Hamer will be sold come summer and will be joined by more than a few I would of thought. Any of those that are out on loan are already half way out the door apart from Cashman and Burroughs who will get a chance in summer and try to push into 1st team squads.

Others out of contract I'm not sure of any will be kept on Mcfazden and Jones I think are the likeliest but I'm not sure it's guaranteed. Incomings may depend on outgoings but would expect 1 can happen with an improved budget from this season. Be a good summer to see what happens but I expect an improvement in quality not so much on numbers

Not sure about Cashman, he’s 21 and not making the squad for Rochdale in League 2. Robins in the interview he did sounds like he’s never met him which isn’t encouraging

I thought Adebayo was really good for Luton when we played them - he’s scored 1 more than Gyokeres this season. Having a look at the top scorers didn’t realize how far down he is

Gyokeres did not score for ages after his injury, seems to be back on form now. Takeaway the playing whilst recovering i would say he has scored about 12 in 15 games. Mind you, Godden has 10 in not many more and he had to come back to fitness.

Get the 2 playing together over a full season and you have approx 40 goals in a season if not more.

The only thing is can they play and both score in the same team?

Aleksandar Mitrovic is a player out on his own, everyone agrees. Godden has the second-highest scoring per mins per game in the Championship. 17 Games, 10 Goals, 0.80 goals per game). 3rd highest conversion rate and the highest Accuracy rate. Top 11 scorers etc from the BBC top 11 Championship Top Scorers - BBC Sport

Goddens scoring rate if fit over the season is about 26 goals this season.
Viktor Gyökeres is about 16 goals, but if you take out the goal drought when he got inured then i see about 23 goals for the season.
The big question is, can MR get them to play together as they are both goal scores when played seperalely.
Playing and scoring together that is a 50 goal striker partnership, If we can keep them both and MR can find a way to play them both in the same team, with no/less key injuries next season we could be well up for promotion.
