Presuming we’re staying in the Championship next season we need to still do a lot of work with this squad to enable it to compete at the top.

Goalkeepers:

Out: Wilson, Moore

In: Need to spend some decent money on a top keeper. It makes a huge difference. Need to find the next Kieran Westwood and the impact he made when we signed him. Johansson at Rotherham probably going to a Euro side in the summer but would happily take him:

Defenders:

Out: Binks, Jay Dasilva

In: probably two at the LB/LWB position. A younger Jake Bidwell type and a proper LWB option.

Also, we need someone more experienced than Thomas and a Fadz replacement. Likely to pair with Kitching.

Midfield:

Out: Sheaf. Controversial but not ever getting a full season is causing us issues. Also summer would be the time to get maximum value from him and continue the reinvestment.

CoH won’t be here so that is a decision that will be made by him.

Palmer: An enigma and isn’t the future. Move him off our wage bill.

Kelly: Writing is on the wall

In: The next Sheaf, the next CoH, some more cover in the DM and attacking mid position. Also look at another right sided winger.Left will be covered by Mas

Strikers

Out: Godden and Taveres. One isn’t at this level anymore and the later isn’t going to be at this level.

In: We need 2 strikers in, one being at a level they’re regularly scoring goals and the other an upcoming younger talent.

All in all a very busy summer.

After last night we desperately need a new LB, some competition for Thomas at RCB, a winger on either side and a new striker.

Agree several quality additions are needed, but lets not shit ourselves after one loss

We have the foundations of a really good squad

Foundations are there but there’s still a gap to be one of the top sides in this division.

This season has seen Leeds, Saints and Scum come down and made it a very difficult league. Next season will have lower quality teams coming down. Being realistic next year is a real chance to push for autos with more quality additions.

A bit OTT.

Just need to add 6 top quality signings.
Keeper
R/b
C/b
Central midfielder
Attacking midfielder
striker

we already got EMC as A left winger.

Few out the door.
Moore/Wilson.
Kelly/

I suppose with Sheaf, if he won't sign a new deal in the summer than realistically, we do need to replace him. Will be a big loss.

Wouldn't mind a few of the fringe players like Godden, Allen and Dasilva moved on and then we can bring in more quality in those positions.

Our first 11 is good but there's no depth. 1RW, 1RB, no backup LW (although EMC has been signed). We need an upgrade at RCB. Cover for LCB. A better LB. A better GK. A O'Hare replacement. Better CM options of the bench. 2 ST brought in.

That should leave us with:

GK - Collins, Wilson, New GK
CB - Thomas, Kitching, Latibeaudiere, New CB, New CB
RB - van Ewijk, Burroughs, New RB
LB - Bidwell, Dasilva, New LB
CM - Sheaf, Torp, Eccles, Allen, Howley, New CM
AM - Palmer, New AM
RW - Sakamoto, Tavares, New RW
LW - Wright, Mason-Clark, Rus
ST - Simms, Godden, New ST, New ST

Sell - Wilson, Dasilva, Godden
Loan - Burroughs, Howley, Rus

This is stupid. Championship match day squads are 18 players, this is a 32 man squad. There's not going to be a point where we have 14 injuries, and if they're not good enough to play they shouldn't be here.

Replace Wilson if needs be. One CB in. Replace a LB if that's what Robins wants. Replace O'hare. Replace Godden. 21 players + you got an option on some youngsters and maybe signing another attacking player.

Maybe 24/25 man squad who are worth putting on the pitch. At the moment it's 20 if you discount Moore and Kelly (who's barely playing), and that includes Tavares.

How is it stupid when my squad ends up having 1 more player than what you suggested?

When you remove the 'sell' and 'loan' players in my list, the squad size comes to 26 players.

That's 26 players. Clubs like Stoke have 33 players.

Last season we were carried by 2 of the best players in the league, and the league being very poor last year. We will miss out on the play-offs again this year like we did in the 21/22 season because of our small squad size. Having Latibeaudiere covering 3 positions will work for a couple of games, not a couple of months. We are playing 2 games a week from January until May. We need more depth. The players are running on fumes.

Rus has gone on loan with a permanent deal in place for the summer so unless something drastic changes he won't be coming back. Howley hasn't kicked on this season either so wouldn't be surprised if he moves on come the summer.

I think a lot hinges on the seriousness of Sakamoto’s injury. Also we have to consider how Burroughs and Howley are after their loans.
Looking at it now. I think we need a centre half, two if we don’t sign Binks. We need another left back. We need another winger, maybe two if Saka is out for a long time. We need a striker to replace Godden, a centre mid to replace Kelly, and an AM to replace O’Hare.
If we can bring in a better keeper then I think we should do so and then bin off Wilson.
Then maybe add a couple more outfield players for better squad depth

As challenging for a place plenty of season where rotation is needed at both positions.

couple of good points, but have to laugh at a couple too…

Sheaf off? seriously?

Also we have a very good LWB - JDS. He doesn’t fit the current system because he’s not a LB in a back four, which is a shame

That Sheaf comment is an awful take. We need to add more players - but selling one of the best midfielders in the league is really suicidal

The danger with long contracts are if the player flops it’s hard to shift them. Dasilva won’t be going anywhere, he’ll have three years left still and no one will pay a fee for him. Bidwell is more likely to move on in my opinion

One of the big things for me is improving our ‘development’ quality. The types of squad player that are 18-21, will largely play in U23s but wouldn’t look horrendously out of place if having to play 5 league games. Appreciate that’s far easier said than done, but we’ve accelerated at such a rate our academy has largely been left behind.

It would be a brave man who'd predict that only one of the three relegated teams would make the autos.

We need far more than that.

In an ideal world, we would off load, Wilson, Moore, Dasilva, Binks, Kelly, Allen, Wright, Simms, Godden, and Tavares.

And our u23 squad would be completely overhauld.

But that's a lot to ask in 1 transfer window.
