But is he adequate back up? We don't know because apart from the spell under AB he's never had a decent turn in the side.

Our defence has been poor this season, just 4 clean sheets and regularly gifting teams 3-4 good chances a game, shouldn't our back up players be pushing really hard for a start?

So are we getting so many goals without getting any chances?

Little secret for you. When you attack like we do you leave yourself open. You get more chances than the other team. On averages you will win more than you lose. Or would you prefer to defend when you have the better players?

Yes it is adequate, when your winning games your not gonna change the team are you? When Cameron played badly and we lost against Brentford robins changed it and he kept it like that since.

We can't afford to get another cb. Lb defo then another striker then we probs won't have much money left

Oh thanks Astute, I feel so enlightened.

I would rather us attack, but you have to pick and choose, you don't see the top teams leave themselves open as much as we do.

Of and the leagues tips scorers (Swindon) have managed 13 clean sheets to our 4 so you can have both. (Bournemouth the other attacking team have 7 clean sheets)

The question is if wood or edj have a season ending injury would you be confident with Cameron as a replacement. I would be doubtful.

I would.
Having seen how he dealt with Marlon king.
I would be confident with Malaga as well.
However that won't happen MR is pissed off with him.

Yes. Yes i do Cameron impresses me when he plays and in his first season under AB he showed great quality at time, sure sometimes he was poor but he has talent and 2 big black tanks in defence gotta love that

It won't happen because Malaga is not anywhere near good enough. If he is please tell me why at 26 he has played less than 10 professional games.

Because he played very well against one of the best teams in our division.
Then has an average second half against one of the worst.
Like all of our team did.

Then the manager who signed him was sacked the rest is history.

Fair crack if the whip for Malaga?

You aren't slightly curious about a player who has only played 10 games at this level? Thorn picked him ahead of edj. Enough said.

I thought he was defensively weak agai st Sheffield and against Bury looked like a Sunday league player - which is where he has been most of his career.

You did say that about him against Sheff Utd, tbf to you.
However as everyone else was raving about his performance you were as normal on you own

If the "majority" are always right Richard Shaw would be manager after his first game and we would have signed lee mills ( oh we did).

Can we not? The only position we don't agree on is whether sheff or fleck/Barton should play. The rest of the side pretty much picks itself.

I wouldn't agree

Clarke/Christie debate will carry on

For me I hope to see Thomas come into the first team over Jennings when he is fit enough, Fleck has added more to the debate with his last few games in central midfield

Then as you say the Fleck/Sheff/Barton debate will continue

And currently the striker shirt is up for grabs with Mcgoldrick leaving, I know Clarke has came in but if he doesn't start off well we have Elliott waiting to come in

I disagree in the last 10-15 games there has been very debate about the starting line up apart from the sheffers-fleck-Barton for attacking midfield.

The Thomas debate is brand new off the back off today's cameo, and no one would have been mentioning Elliott had he not got a brace against MK Dons and McG going. Am

People have only suggested Christie needs a rest the last couple of games.

over the last 10-15 games yes because Mcgoldrick was a definite pick and Jennings/Bailey had no competition in centre mid although I would still say over the last 10-15 games there had been varying opinion still on weather Clarke or Christie should play right back
You didn't say that in your first post, you just said there was no debate on who should play apart from Fleck/Sheff/Barton which I disagree with

I have always thought Clarke was the better player but Christie was in form until recently

Thomas has been injured so that was taken out of our hands, I have always thought Thomas would push Jennings for a starting place when he returned

Yea Mcgoldrick was a definite pick when he was here, but now there is a shirt up for grabs

The only players who are starters or which 90% of the fans agree on I would say are Murphy, Wood, Edge, Adams, Bailey, Moussa and Baker. That leaves 4 positions where fans have varying opinions on who should play, not as you said initially only one position up for debate from the fans

Surely the fact that we are debating over weather the first 11 is up for debate from fans shows that there are debates :thinking about:

I know what your getting at but really up until today no one really questioned Jennings inclusion in the side either.

To be honest the big thing I think we're lacking is variety and plan b.

Lee mills .......

I wish we were signing Gary Mac, Huckerby, Robbin Keane. Dion

It hurts to hear the name Lee Mills.

Trevor Benjamin

One day we will return

No not really.

Elliott is in contention because Mcgoldrick gone.

Clarke is in contention because Christie has been poor.

Ditto people are starting to get on Jennings back after today's performance.

So really 3 of those 4 debated positions are because there's either a vacant position or a player has been in poor form.

The only position I ever seem to see debated on here on a regular basis is sheff's vs fleck/Barton.

That's the idea someone, loses form gets injured buggers off gets suspended all the reasons why a player is no longer there and the replacement does detract from the strength if your team by a devastating effect.

Having a player that can replace someone is different from healthy competition. The last 10-15 games we've had the same starting line up 95% of the time. People have come in as replacements but not performed well enough to make to make that position their own.

I do think we now have healthy competitive but I take your point regarding that choice of phrase.

My original OP was regarding suitable cover in each position which personally I think we are 90% there

Elliott, Barton and Fleck have all done well at times when they have been called upon over the last 10 games. Ok Barton was poor at Preston but so was the whole side. He did ok at Doncaster, Elliott did well at MK Dons and Fleck imo did ok in the last two league games

Agreed, I think Fleck was better than "ok", I think he was arguably our best player v MKD and STFC.

Elliott aside (he was unlucky to miss out) - Barton and fleck have done well but then not followed it up with good enough performances to keep their shirts, and put others under pressure for a starting berth.

Fleck made some lovely passes against Shrewsbury but was equally as poor without the ball, but we've already had this debate.

Us fans can debate, but we all know that the team that lined up today will almost certainly start on Thursday.

Aha, poor!? How? He put in 3 great balls, covered gaps, linked play, even linked with your bf Sheff.

When he came off, we played shit, I think that's all I need to say really.

He also put in a couple of good tackles including a tackle against the physically imposing Morgan.

Question, do you think he played well today?

Sheffers was easily our best player against Shrewsbury followed by Adams.

May I add to that...

McSheff played well 1st half, Fleck came off, he played shit as well.

Again, Fleck linked with Moussa and Sheff v well, he linked play to Baker as well, he also put in 2 smexy balls for Adams v Shrews, and another even better today.

Fleck also can dictate the tempo of which we play, very, very underrated by some.

Except for his 2 crosses to Clarke who was unlucky not to score and his stinging effort that McGoldrick nearly put in the rebound.

I think the fact that he is our top assister by 2, in less games than the others, 2 less than Sheff, god knows how many behind Baker and Bailey, would suggest I don't overrate him as much as you underrate him...

I was waiting for that exact reply

'Free role', behind the striker.

After today's performances, I'd look to start a midfield 5 of:

Baker Bailey Fleck Thomas Moussa

I will admit, Sheff has been better, and is an unfortunate casualty, but it's either him, Moussa or Baker who has to go IMO. I'd definitely bring him on.
