Should we fail to go up is this season deemed a success considering how we started, or a failure overall?

I dont want any of that successful first half, poor second half nonsense.

Failure, from the position we were in. Has to be.

From the position we were / are in when the window opened anything other than automatic promotion is an absolute disaster.

How on earth would throwing away the biggest lead in Championship history be considered a success?

Well the argument from some including @skybluecam is that its a success as its better than we were predicted at the start

It’s a success whatever happens from here. That is beyond question.

Promotion via the play-offs is the minimum expectation for the season now given the position we were in. Anything but that is abject failure.

I'm going to post a new thread that will answer this question.
There is no debate - if we don't go up it will be a disaster.

We were 10 points clear of 2nd. 13 points clear of 3rd.

If we don't go up it's the biggest bottlejob in the history of the league and I'd want heads on spikes.

Failure, but you stick with Lampard.

I think Lampard will probably walk if we don't go up anyway thinking he wasn't backed enough in January after getting the team to a great position.

Well if nothing else we’ve all been superbly entertained by comic geniuses saying “get it done Doug” and similar dross for six months.

Ironically when we were winning he was on here every week slagging off the defence!

Ok. How is it a success. Nah, not falling for it. Although we do appear to be top of the league.

Promotion in what ever way, whether it be winning the league, autos or playoffs - that's a success.

Failure to get promoted is exactly that, a failure. It'd just be a repeat of previous seasons but with a higher best position.

You may not believe it could possibly be true but it is possible to enjoy wins and still point out we are defensively inept. In fact I’ve spent all season bemoaning our full backs even when we won. Defensively we are terrible. But top of the league we are. I know the nuance is difficult to understand but yes, yes, we are top the league and shit in defence

You literally are a parody at this point. Just put your phone down and have a break from the Internet for the night. You'll feel better for it in the morning!

Well I consider it a success to have participated on a forum with someone with Einstein like guile. Drawing fellow posters in. Spitting them out with subtle subterfuge. The to and fro. Fantastic.

Don't normally post on here but here goes.

We had a pretty much unique opportunity this season due to parachute teams massively underperforming and our own strong form. The cracks started to appear in October but in spite of that, we got through to early January and the window with a sizeable lead.

We all saw at that point frailties in central midfield yet nothing has been done to rectify that, in spite of money presumably being available (Sheaf sale, purported Hughes and Rushworth bids). And now we spend more money on another winger to replace the outgoing ones this coming summer?!

I know transfers aren't easy but why has nothing been done to sort these glaring issues to boost the promotion push? Other clubs have acted so why not us? And as others have said, our negotiating position to do deals contingent on promotion weakens by the day, as any selling clubs or players will now have massive doubts.

It's one thing losing out to Leeds or Burnley boosted by massive Premier league funds, but if we lose out to Middlesbrough, Hull or Millwall etc after having a double digit lead over 2nd in January, I fail to see that as anything other than a failure of epic proportions.

I thought autos would be out of reach at the start of the season, but to collapse from where we've got to and not get promoted (Play-Offs included) would be a failure
