I agree about Eccles, but he looked tired too.

Interesting idea about Binks coming on and Lati moving forward instead.

Basically if we insist on not upgrading Kelly, he should only be there for Hamer if we have absolutely zero alternative. In fact the latter saying he was ‘feeling his calf’ seems a bit dubious given how he was playing up to that point.

Agree re Eccles. He would have been my choice but if tired then understandable why not.
Thomas liked to get forward a lot and at times out of position because of it, at others offered excellent support and broke up play higher than a usual CB. I wonder if he could do a job as defensive midfield if required.

People seem to forget that the coaching team have loads of real-time performance data available for each player to determine their level of fatigue and hence inform decisions around substitutes.

Yeah like when Dabo was unable to walk but stayed on, for example.

Yesterday Palmer could barely run.

The data informs substitutions, not dictates them. Who was on the bench when Dabo was unable to walk - I can’t remember?

It's never right! He has moments where he switches off in every game.
I'm convinced it's what's stopped him being the subject of interest from other clubs because apart from that he's a very good player.

I get the feeling he often thinks he has more time than he actually does, with and without the ball.

There was a spell where he was on the edge of the area and really 'dallying' on it and ran into trouble

Well other than the fact that if we were 1 down and won 2–1 you’d be crediting the manager for his tactical nous

On Sky, they showed him holding his leg before he went off

That's not enough. We also need a close-up of his face, grimacing.

Because of our Wembley appearance and the late arrival of the signings we again are behind a good few of the other clubs in playing competitive friendlies. Exeter for example had played 8 to our 5 as pointed out by MR. The manager said we were not ready and our defensive lapses showed that. Leicester were also suffering from a disjointed pre season and that is probably why their defence looked all over the place. We were beaten by a defensive lapse for their first goal and a brilliant strike for the second. Hamer has had virtually no pre-season and was taken off to stop a recurrence of his recent injury, Eccles was knackered and at the time Milan with his lightning pace seemed a good call to stop problems down our right. Unfortunately, Milan looked a bit lost probably due to virtually no training sessions. Hadji nearly turned it around. Subs were perfectly logical and I would have added Bidwell to close down their left channel. Football is a squad game and MR would have been crucified if Hamer picked up a long-term injury and Eccles was skinned for a goal.

During the warm up he went down in his haunches clutching his leg. One of coaching staff crouched with him for a good few mins. I thought fora couple mins he wouldn’t start

I didn't think he looked fully fit from the start. But a not fully fit Hamer is still better than most in this division.

Reading their forum they thought that after every substitution we looked weaker and it was what they needed.
