It was a no-loss signing. Even if it was just til Jan like blades did to see us through to the window. Granted, wages MIGHT have been a bit of an issue, but surely with it only being 3 months worth of wage and it being off-set by not paying a fee for him, it was surely a no brainer. Even FL had seen enough from him in training to justify it.
Doug has made plenty of big calls since he's been in, and generally gets them right. I just hope his "wanting a small squad" call, isnt one that bites us in the arse.

I think there are other factors .. rudoni coming back in disrupting attacking flow and a huge amount of low quality deliveries from both sides .

Things just arent quite what they were in the final 3rd right now

Wright had 14 touches all night, and won 1 of his 7 aerial battles. Not good enough.

No chance of getting Moore off of Wrexham. They dont need to sell, he'll be happy there and no doubt on wages we couldnt match.

To think, he only cost them £2m. In the summer, a striker similar to him is exactly what we needed. Now, we'd be looking at double figures for anyone similar.

I suggested him and loads on here turned their nose up at him.

He would be perfect for us

Tbh I defended Wright from the start of his time here and don't consider myself a hater of his at all but he had a huge spell to end last season where he was just dire. We were told it was injury related yet here we are again. He goes through spells where he is frankly dreadful and I am not here for it.

When I think of some of the poor buggers who have had dogs abuse over the years I'm amazed how much slack Wright and Simms are cut. I'd take a striker who might score a couple less than Wright but was a consistent thorn in the side of the opposition defence, giving them something to think about and creating opportunities for others. With Wright its a short purple patch to up the stats them long periods of nothing. Can't have that in a potential automatic promotion campaign

Him and Bamford. Both completely different to what we have. Both veterans (you dont have longevity like they've had in this league being shit/carthorses like most suggested they are). Moore already has more goals than Wright and Bamford quickly catching him.

11 games without a goal for a team top of the table is pretty astounding.

Yes our lofty position is largely down to other players in the team having a fantastic run of form at the same time and scoring goals for fun. That was never going to last so its back to being the "big time" strikers responsibility

I don’t know, but my gut feeling on the eye test is we’re wasting chances and positions as opposed to not creating anything.

Everyone has off games/baron spells. The best of pros do, let alone Championship level players. Nobody minds the fact that not every player is 100% week-in, week-out. For me though, its the apparent lack of effort when he's not on it. I dont care if you dont score, I dont care if you dont have your best game. I do care though that you're wearing a shirt and not giving 100% effort. Robins used to say regularly, he'd rather 11 average players giving 110% over 11 good players giving 70%. Wright is in neither the "good" or "110% effort" bracket atm. Hes currently an average player giving 50%.

We did this already last season. This is not a team wanting for goals even when the strikers are not regularly scoring. I don’t think Wright’s pedigree should be in any doubt.

Funny old game isn't it, I wouldn't be arsed if I never saw him in a city shirt again but opinions are what makes the game so good. I'm with you on the point of potential goal scorers throughout the team though

I wouldnt be sorry to see the back of Simms and Wright tbh whichever division we end up in next season.

Theyve both shown flashes but neither of them are capable of sustained performance over a prolonged period.

Everyone has bad games and even spells, but both Simms and Wright have periods that last for months where they look like Sunday league players. Its not good enough.

I've said the other day. Best we can hope for is to go up, shift them both for £25m and go and buy some new strikers.

Wrexham will not get promoted. We are top and eying promotion. Why wouldn't Moore come to us? I'd rather take Sargent now he is back from injury. I also don't mean as a replacement striker but an additional one will will need for the long haul we still face when others Wright especially are not scoring. I think Sargent in particular would jump at the chance. What's he worth?

Simms player of the month in November , scoring for fun and scoring good goals. Gets dropped as soon as Wright is fit ?
Strikers like a prolonged run in the side , especially when they are firing. Was a strange decision by Lampard

We cant afford to pay a striker £60k for 3 months..... but can pay a striker £30k for 3 seasons AND pay £££m's to bring him in aswell? Go figure.

Memtalists on here.

Ipswich didnt even play with an out to out striker.

The pelters on wright is pathetic. Fact is he shoukd have got a penalty.

His service wa snon existant.

The tactics from lampard was atrocious did nothing to change it.

No, but if we bought in a new striker, either from the PL or with the PL in mind, I can assure you, theyll be asking for at least that and some more. Which is exactly the point im making. IF we brong in a new striker in Jan (which one can only assume is the reason we said no to Bamford) then it'll cost us, at this point of the season and what is it stake, say £10m+ and the obligatory 10% January up-sale. Then theyll be one with an eye on playing for us next season so would be easily demanding £30k+. Which is my point, £60k a week for a few months for Bamford, is a damn sight cheaper than £10m singing fee, plus wages for a player of his value/experience.

I do think that FL got the tactics wrong after 15 minutes you could see we were in for a tough night EMC,Wright bullied all night long balls most of the night(did we win a header)Saka none existent could of given KKH a chance second half down the right and Rudoni was just getting in the way.We were beat by a better side who were up for it,that is the worst we have played all season.Grimmes wasn't his normal cool calm controller but doing most of the work in there himself.

Wright has been showing about as much interest last few games as my cousin is in opening up his wallet and buying a round.

We wouldn't have got him.

He wouldn't have been first choice, or on the money he would demand. So what would be his incentive to join?

He would be a useful member of the squad, but targets have to be realistic.

A lot of the reason for the forwards not performing is because we are not giving them the service to allow them to perform.

However, I said it on the match thread, I think it was a mistake to bring Wright straight back in when Simms was in form. Apart from anything, it tells Wright (and Simms) that the shirt is always his, occasional rotation for rest aside.

That's not healthy; part of the reason we've seen an upturn in Thomas and Kitching's form is because they now have better competition in Woolfenden.

Wright is a better player than Simms, but imo Simms has put in better individual performances this season. Both should have the right to earn and lose the shirt equally.
