Same amount of goals when compared 2023/4 and 2024/25.

Rudoni had far more assists which were aided by 7 corner assists.

I think talk of getting rid of wright is ludicrous. He is absolutely one of the best strikers in this league when he is properly fit. We’re rarely seeing him properly fit at the moment, as there is no faith in the other strikers and therefore we’re wheeling him out broken and off the pace.

They'd be silly to rush him back for sure. I wonder if the club can be doing more on the medical side, he clearly went to USA injured despite what Lampard has said. He was likely rushed back to help out at the end of the season.

“It’s always sad to see a player leave, because the group was very good, and he’s a very good guy and adds very good quality to the group,” said Pochettino, who revealed Wright reported for duty from the Sky Blues with Achilles issues.

“He’s a player that can play in different positions in the attack. Yes, sad situation - sad for him, sad for the team - but I think we need to prioritise his process to recovery.

“He already arrived with some problems in his Achilles, and then we cannot fix the problem. He increased pain. That is why that is the decision that we take.”

I don’t disagree with either of those comments. But if you play three up front the two wider players are there to put good ball into the box and to contribute to the goal scoring.

If we are to improve as a team this year Sakamoto and Mason Clarke are two players who need to improve. Both need to improve on their consistency of quality ball into the box. Also in that formation they have to contribute more goals.

I don’t get excited by Sakamoto beating his man twice if no cross comes in. Especially if he had the opportunity to cross the first time he beat his man. Last year both were inconsistent in general with their performances and Sakamoto especially away from home.

I can’t fault their application of effort. Both have shown they can deliver the quality required, it just comes down to how consistently they can do it.

Torp is another who we need to see step up and improve on consistency. He needs to get involved more in games and boss the midfield more creatively because that is what he is there for, especially higher up the pitch. At the moment it is too often bits and pieces here and there. But there is a player there, we have seen that, but needs to bring it more consistently and another capable of contributing more goals.

If Frank Lampard and the coaches can develop Mason Clarke, Sakamoto and Torp we will improve as a team this year regardless of new signings.

I dont really think the strikers are the issue tbh

Weve 3 strikers here all have trouble consistently performing in this system

We need to move the ball forward much more quickly. Rushworth's kicking wasn't great yesterday but he could look for the quick throw more often and just go a bit longer sometimes. Our long balls yesterday were often too straight and that means they have to be inch perfect or they just run away!

Agree about the speed of moving the ball forward, a major strength of ours with the players we’ve got should be getting behind teams down the channels. Neither robins nor lampard have done this enough which is strange. Maybe that’s not so easy against teams who play like Hull did yesterday though, they just sat deep and came for the draw.

Also understand some of the comments about crossing yesterday but didn’t we get the most headed goals last season….and that was without Keiffer Moore ! - Sorry if this has already been mentioned elsewhere

Surely we’ve got to play Simms if we’re focussed on crossing ball in though, BTA on his own down the middle ain’t gonna work

I think overall we were fine yesterday.

We really needed a striker willing to throw himself at every cross, bump defenders and know how to hold the ball up.

I think the way we play we will really struggle to get a striker who scores over 15, but if we are insistent on playing this way then we need someone who suits the system.

This flirting between BTA and Simms doesn't make a lot of sense to me. One of them has a poor game, the other is the answer. The other then plays and has a poor game, and suddenly the first one is the answer. It's like cycling your votes between Labour and Conservatives each time an election comes round and wondering why you aren't getting better results. Neither at present are good enough for this team in my opinion.

I hope something is done, because so far it is a slow window and it seems pretty obvious to me that this is one of our biggest issues.

Even he looks surprised when they went in to be fair...more to the point who scored less goals than Simms last season? We don't have goals throughout the team so we are ultra dependant on our 'strikers' and obviously it takes the pressure off the strikers if we do get some goals from midfielders/defenders

Massively. Sakamoto is a good player, but he’s not a a big goal threat and sometimes wasteful at the byline.

One stanza that annoyed me is when Sakamoto got the ball in the good crossing position, he tries a dribble move and it goes out for a goal kick. For such a good crosser, it’s frustrating.

Our wingers do that a lot and it’s irritating, or the needless check backs.

The problem then isn’t the strikers, it’s that the rest of the team hasn’t got the goals in them which is a problem when you play 1 striker in your formation.

When people talk about this ‘games scored in stat’, after you breakdown the numbers, any striker who scores in 15+ games is probably going to be top goal scorer in the league or thereabouts. So you need to find another goalscorer for the remaining 30-odd games.

Every team towards the top end of the table needs close to 3.5 goal scorers in the side who are preferably starters. Haji and Rudoni make 2, EMC may make 3 but there isn’t really anyone else in the starting lineup.

A striker isn't the issue. Not replacing this is:

Rudoni and Torp are rarely going to carry the ball in that position. Simms and Wright scored loads of goals in 2023/24 and a huge part of that was O'Hare creating space with his movement.

A 10 is vital. Someone to drive with the ball through the middle.

I thought Rudoni and Torp both carried the ball well yesterday and are both the most creative passers of the ball we have.

I think the majority on here will agree Asante is rubbish but using him as a target men was the same as using/abusing Godden as a target man too, Asante CANNOT hold the ball up he would be better playing off a target man as was/is Godden

We have 2/3 wingers putting crosses into the box, trying to get either BTA or Wright ( obviously not Simms) onto the end of them, against giant center backs who just head everything away!! is it really the strikers at fault or the tactics???

We have two great strikers in Wright and Sims.

Both have technical ability and are proven to be dangerous at this level.

Both are low on confidence.

I’m old enough to remember Dele Adebola.

Rather than write off our strikers, perhaps we need to get to the nub of the issue

Yes. I prefer Wright at LW then central so let him fight for that spot with EMC and get a striker on.

then we’ll also see if Wright wants it bad enough.

Not sure I agree. Simms is missing something to be consistently good enough at this level and not convinced with Wright as a striker. Much better LW

The usual anti Simms brigade should watch his goal in the last friendly and thats what was needed today. Not the headless chicken Asante with his fake bandage on his arm. WBA fans must have been pissing themselves we payed money for him
