Just going through YouTube and looking back on when watching ccfc was exciting. Many on here say Strachan was a poor manager but these links below make me differ that opinion

"We want Strachan out " I remember very clearly from almost all 4 sides of the stadium.
He wasn't ready for it.
He is more likely to have success in the Prem should he return, as he did after he left City. Was he right to be sacked ? Yes he was from the rubbish I remember watching.

Nobody would say there weren't good times under Strachan, but those last 18 months or so were dreadful. His time had come.

Ignoring the fact that we were effectively relegated in his first season and only a points deduction for Middlesbrough kept us up. The actual relegation season was even worse. He spent comparative fortunes to achieve very little.

Paul Telfer always first on the team sheet because he never , apparently , seemed to make many mistakes. I'd almost forgotten him. A forgettable player certainly in my house.

My favourite days, but his time had definitely come when he went.

On a side note, there isn't one manager in charge of us in my living memory who hasn't been called "tactically inept" at some point!

I enjoyed his tenure, happier times. I think in his last season he sadly made mistakes, that took too long to correct. He probably needed a better side kick than Pendry. I have met him several times and always found him a thoroughly nice bloke. Seeing this stuff reminds me of how far we have fallen...which I admit makes some of us (certainly me included) so tetchy on the site sometimes.

Always thought he was an ok manager.

Getting relegated was sooner or later going to happen considering the lucky escapes in the past we had but unfortunately the theory of the laws of probability doomed us and it happened during Strachans tenure.

Those last three words really sum it up. When I read them it made me laugh, because it is absoloutely spot on, and the laugh was more a sad futile laugh at how we have the countrys most useless football club owners.

The only thing that keeps me going is that they wont be here forever........lets hope they go soon!

I don't think he was all that bad. Things certainly didn't improve for us when he went. On the other side of the coin though GS has carved out a fairly successful and respectable managerial career after he went. That's a telling story on it's own. The way he performed in the shirt tells you what you need to know about him even earning a man of the match award after drafting himself in because of injuries even though he was supposed to be retired.

Things did improve. Strachan left the team in 18th position in mid September. The new management took them to 6th place by Christmas.

It's fantastical to think that way. I can't think of a single club that has kept on an underachieving and unpopular manager for years, let alone a decade. Managers tend to have a shelf life at any given club, and Strachan had expired.

Not necessarily. A manager's ability is important, of course, but being in the right place at the right time also helps. Strachan didn't have such awesome managerial ability that he was able to handle City's long 18 month decline. He still had something, but he was no longer compatible with CCFC.

Not entirely fair IMO. He had a spell when we were playing the best football I have ever seen from a City side.

Selective memory? Erm how do you work that out? Between 97 and 2001 I witnessed some great football by some world class players. It was a privilege. We beat the villa away for the first time ever. Quarter final of the FA cup (which we should have won) wins against man utd, Liverpool, arsenal and Chelsea. All at the time the best clubs in the league. Loads of goals and plenty of memorable games and moments. And your judgement of managers leaves a lot to be desired. I remember you saying on here thorn was a good manager. Lol

Arguably our most successful managers in history were John Sillet and George Curtis - Since the day they left there post we are on our 16th Manger - surprisingly for those that chooses to pull him to pieces Steven Pressley is currently in 5th place with percentage games won- some other surprises down the list - our most successful Mark Robins our worst by a long way Andy Thorn

Strachan could be a right dick, but I would donate my left nad to have someone with his passion and attitude back at the club.

I was one of those calling for him to go at the time (hindsight is a bitch) but I think he would have turned us around if he had stayed.

Didn't do too badly after us either and is certainly doing a fantastic job for his country. I have nothing against starch, I cannot think of many better managers than the 87 pair and JH.

The era of football was the best I have seen, I was never so excited about football other than that era.

Any one of our previous managers could have took us down prior to Strachan, only good fortune and other teams results saved us on may occasions. And saying he had more than any other City manager to spend is a fallacy, he was the only City manager that really had any decent money to spend, and comparative to other clubs in the PL at the time, it was peanuts.

Exactly the point.
You only have to look at some of the rubbish that kept us in the top flight over the years. Bobby Gould had to build a team from scratch when Sexton left, signing players from the bottom two divisions and non league.
Then look at Strachan's squad.

Following them all round the country and getting beaten again and again. Then he'd pop up on MOTD making wise cracks.

Grade A twat.

I can't argue with most of that, but he was thrown in as player manager buy the board at the time, they decided he was the man for the job and let him spend the highest budget we ever had. Twat or not, the board allowed it to happen.

Gordon Milne seems to have been forgotten altogether in all of this. We had some good teams and some great times under this chap and all in the top league !!.......................Oh and he didn't break the bank like Gordon { I'll watch them on a video tape from Honduras } Strachan !?
