Just had a gaff at the Stoke forum.

Let’s put it this way… they’re so depressed about their team and the season hasn’t even started!

Couldn’t even tell you what the opening day team will be, we have decent options to rotate it seems.

I think the only two question marks (assuming no more injuries) are Allen or Torp and EMC or Wright.

Yeah that’s fair I guess. Personally I’d start Torp and Wright and be looking to bring on EMC and Allen when we’re 17-0 up.

That's a brave call.

I'd do it when we get to 9-0.

That would be typical Mark Robins to take off our bigger goal threats when we’re only 9-0 up.

Yep. Remember when Millwall tried to use Covid to get a game at the Ricoh postponed during an injury crisis? Obvs they went on to beat us.

In other news, anyone else still sweating on the tickets arriving in the post?

Healthy dose of realism after the heat of summer has caused the ludicrous "autos" predictions. Hard fought 1-1 draw

Only 2 places worth visiting. Madeley is a nice spot ( about 3 miles beyond Keele University) and nearer to the stadium Trentham Gardens is lovely. Other than that don't bother.

I can’t see anything other than a victory. We look fit, sharp and ready for the season to start

We didn't play very well at Stoke last season yet came away with a win. Our record there is pretty good. All the signs point to an away win but I can't help but feel we'll draw 1-1.

Think the team picks itself except Allen v Torp and Haji v EMC.

Yep and I would go with Torp and EMC (I'm unsure how ready Wright is).

But I wouldn't be surprised to see Robins do the opposite!

Allen will start ahead of Torp, rightly or wrongly. Had a full pre season and captained the side. Robins trusts him more I’d say.

Going a goal down will result in the Samaritans hot lines being on fire as the usual suspects on here fall into a spiral of complete despair. ‘Relegate us now’ was something I read on here a few seasons ago during our 4th game after an early goal against us.

A draw away from home is usually a decent result,

However, given we're playing an injury ravaged and (lets be honest) pretty poor Stoke side, I think anything less than 3 points would be seen as very disapointing.

I'm not saying a meltdown, bed wetting, MR out or toy throwingly bad result, just a disapointing first game to what is a very long season.

But ...... I think this preseason has been far better than our previous couple of seasons, and I think we're actually up to speed and ready to go for once, and our squad has the depth we've previously lacked, so I see us having way to much for Stoke and I see us winning this one comfortably.

The only issue might be managing the fans expectation levels once we get off to a flyer!

When we are expected to lose we play well but when we are expected to win we usually feck it up. Quietly optimistic but anything can happen in football. Just keep all 11 on the pitch. No rushes of blood to nervous heads

Incorrect on both counts, it was after conceding at Watford in the second half I believe

This will be a lot closer than people think it'll be. I'm still hoping we have enough to win though.

First game of the season is always a bit whacky. We’ve prepared well though and have looked in good nick against good opponents.

Robins said he struggled to adapt to the training intensity and picked up an injury. Doubt that makes him a crock tbh

Plenty of time to let Sheaf and Rodrigues get back to fitness. I wonder if we’ll see either on Tuesday.

Under the same circumstances in terms of injuries/missing players, I would be slightly more confident if we were playing them at home. These are the types of games we typically lose when we are expected to win. I really want us to be level-headed and put in a professional performance and get a win. Think EMC has to start on the left in place of Wright. Sheaf will be a big miss, but have a feeling MR will go with Eccles in his place with Torp and Rudoni rounding out the midfield trio.
