πŸ’¬ Silencing the home crowd! We went to Stockport County and came away with a 2-0 victory. Which away day regulars were there for this one?

Can remember the build-up to this game/ season and pundits tipping us favourites to win the league. Felt very odd being tipped to win something!

Chanting 'We'll never play here again'

Well we were right, but not in the way we expected

This was a brilliant day out. Two full sides of Edgerly Park.

Full of hope and expectation. Hughes & Bothroyd looked far too good for the championship...

TSx

25 years of exile began here!

Just clicked to watch in the hope of seeing me and my dad - but that is absolute potato quality. Could barely tell Carsley from Hughes!

Have we ever played Stockport since?

Before my time so they are one of the 5 teams in the 92 I have never seen us play a competitive fixture against in the flesh, the others being the two Merseyside clubs, Bromley and Salford

Played them at home later on in the season and drew 0-0 I think, never played them since. Ironically we could get relegated and play them again next season as they're top of League 1.

I have been to Edgeley Park - Watched Tamworth play there when Stockport were proper on their arse in the lower leagues but they have never crossed paths with us in our time

Stockport always used to play home games on Friday's nights once upon a time to avoid clashing with whichever of City or United were at home to get more people through the door

Yeah, Tranmere the same in Merseyside

Always remember Stockport & Tranmere highlights being shown on Saint & Greavsie & Greavsie always taking the mick out of Kevin Francis

Remember coming out the ground thinking this is gonna be some season 🀑
I'm sure we were top of the league end of October, I remember going to Gatecrasher NEC around then and us being top and thinking it was going to be a good year.

Remember the pre match excitement, and post match, gonna win the league! Good away day mind!

😬

Absolute madness giving a rookie (Niilson) the job when Strachan got fired. We had a good squad, Thompson, Chippo, Hughes, Joachim .

Nilsson did ok, experience is sometimes overrated! He certainly turned things round quickly after he took over, but ultimately he was done in by having Jim Smith foisted on him, with his ex Derby players Carbonari & Trollope too. Joachim was barely fit that season and Chippo was a shadow of the player he had been previously, but we should have at least made the play offs regardless.

We were there. Had a drink in the working men’s club next door. They wouldn’t let us in unless we were members. So I paid 25p for membership and asked how long that was for, and was told that was lifetime membership.
Got in the ground and took our seats and was amazed to find there was no roof.
Fantastic day out

If it wasn't for the ridiculous decision to replace assistant manager Richard Money with Jim Smith we would have got promoted that year..This was the start of the decline which resulted in sisu, Northampton L2 etc
I wondered if I had misremembered the massive decline January onwards coinciding with Jim Smith being brought in as AM then stuffing our top of the league squad with Derby rejects. I was an extremely stupid teenager and even I was like: If they're not good enough for Derby, how are they good enough for us???

I agree with you Legia. That Jim Smith appointment was an absolute joke and is not talked about enough. Talk about de-railing the bloke in charge.

Was a great away day. A real reality check arriving at that ground as the first ground outside the premier league. The pub we were in had a group of County fans singing old County songs like a barbershop quartets, all very bizarre.
We came away thinking the league was going to be a breeze, hmmmm how did that work out..

I was there but I can't really remember much about it. Which suggests it was a good day out. 😁
