Have to say, I am now in my 60's and my reflexes definitely aren't what they used to be. You do slow and your reactions aren't quite as quick.

It is interesting to note, I am on trains all the time. Sometimes 3 or 4 trains a day and I have heard a few older people say they don't drive anymore, or a lot less.

There was a group a couple of weeks ago and 3 of them said that they pretty much gave up driving around the age of 70. They still drove, but very, very rarely.

We do need to retest people I think after a certain age.

Trouble with them only driving occassionally is you're exacebating the problem of deteriorating faculties with losing the 'muscle memory' of driving.

Wierdly IF they're going to keep driving they need to do it regularly to keep their hand in.

Why would you need resting in your 30’s - for what?

I’ve only done it once but they did an eye test, including one where you have to press a button when you see a dot out the corner of your eye, took my blood pressure and asked some questions to check I knew what date it was.
It was pretty ridiculous.

I worked with a bloke that had ummm interesting eye alignment. If you walked up behind him he'd nearly fall over in shock.

He had crash after crash (weirdly the rear corner of his blind spot) but also informed us that his doctor/optician said "if it was up to me you wouldn't be able to drive"

He was also full of shit and smelly so meh

Have a look at my post on "remaining games" bugsy is going to swing it for me you might need to get a few thou. more or dare iI say it run a couple of "Sky Blue Specials" now theres a memory.
On driving driven a few million miles in my time just think tests should happen every 10 years. Had my late one 5 years ago when driving for a charity. Judging by some of the driving I see perhaps 10 years is not often enough.

I reckon most experienced drivers would fail a test because of the habits they’ve picked up. I did mine in the early 00s and even then you it was rigid to pass - it’s probably even more so now.

I think it's been dumbed down, parallel parking is no longer possible as a part of the test I believe but there is a portion of the test that requires you to follow a satnav

Nearly got run over by an older guy on Friday night, looked to be in his 70s. I was on a zebra crossing just off the roundabout at the bottom of Earlsdon high street only for him to come round and accelerate towards me. Was too late for him to brake so I jumped back and threw my arms up. He held his hands up, mouthed sorry and looked genuinely surprised as he went past. Simply don't think he saw me at all.

Age aside, I think driving to St Andrews every other week was the ultimate test in driving hazard perception.
Never seen anything like it around there, it was like everyone had blindfolds on behind the wheel
