Steven Pressley has dismissed suggestions of backroom dissent at Coventry City and leaped to the defence of centre-back Andy Webster.
In the wake of Monday night’s 3-0 home defeat against League One leaders Swindon, internet rumours claimed that Pressley had 'lost the dressing room' while Webster – who played alongside the manager for Hearts and Scotland – came in for some particularly vicious criticism.
“I’ve been briefed on it,” said Pressley, “and the one thing about me is that I never duck any questions.
“I’m a manager that accepts criticism on tactics, I accept criticism on team selection, I accept criticism on results because that is the nature of the industry. But the one thing that I don’t deal in is lies and that’s what I’d say on the blog or whatever it is you’re making reference to.
“Football’s a very emotional business and I understand fully that we can be very reactive to disappointments.
“There’s no doubt that wins crate a better atmosphere than defeats; it’s about how you come back from disappointment – that’s what separates players, that’s what separates most people within the sporting industry.
“In terms of Andy Webster, where that criticism has come from I don’t know but it’s certainly unjust because his performances over the past two or three months have been absolutely top-drawer.
“He has been exceptional – as I said a week ago, he’s been the rock that many of our performances have been built on.”

Webster himself brushed off the comments, saying: “If you have to take stick then so be it – there’s not much anyone else can do to influence anyone’s opinion. People are entitled to have their opinion, so it’s part of football and you need to deal with it.”
The defender, however, did respond to suggestions of a fractured team spirit, anticipating a likely response from some quarters by stressing: “I think people have a perception that I’m the gaffer’s mate but just because I’ve had the association with him in the past doesn’t mean anything – I’m a player, he’s the manager and that’s the fundamentals of the relationship.
“Team spirit is good and what always helps that spirit is winning football matches – that’s what we need to concentrate on and all this sort of stuff that goes with it is not important or our focus.

“There’s no point getting embroiled in anything else. When circumstances are difficult people always nit-pick and look for little things that might not even be there.
“If you’re sitting top of the league nobody bothers about anything going on but when results aren’t going well people start looking into things or at individuals or collectively, whatever, and start to find things that starts a bandwagon going which doesn’t help anybody.
“We’re all in it together and we all want to win football matches.”

That last paragraph has me almost at dribble point!

I've heard it all now. If there was ever any doubt that this guy is a joke manager, the proof is here; “In terms of Andy Webster, where that criticism has come from I don’t know but it’s certainly unjust because his performances over the past two or three months have been absolutely top-drawer.
“He has been exceptional – as I said a week ago, he’s been the rock that many of our performances have been built on.”

The use of 'top drawer' and 'exceptional' are rib tickling to say the least but 'the rock that many of our performances have been built on'?! Performances? When?? Walsall?? When he wasn't fucking playing?! Surely this is some sort of in house joke. A blind man can see how shite Webster is!

'I never duck any questions'. No you don't, you just answer in the same boring repetitive nature every week! Even if we win our next 5 games he is not the man to turn this club around. He has had more than long enough!

I've lost words to say about it now, I think using .Gifs are easier to explain the emotions after reading all that.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt but after these comments their are no excuses for further poor performances. Its his team playing for him with his tactics so it has to be his head on the chopping block.

I wouldn't say he's stamped on any rumours. What he said is actually a bit cryptic, in fact I'm not sure what the fuck he's on about!

SP, face facts, The one time that the team practically picked itself, we beat Walsall 2-0. Doesn't it say anything to you that the vast majority of supporters think Webster is s**t. I've played alongside players that make him look a total novice, and in their time would have breezed into this side that represents our City. He's a s**t CB, and YOU Mr Pressley imho are a s**t manager. Btw, my old team mate Stu Gallagher could play for 10 games in this team and score more goals than the whole forward line at present in a season.

I can understand him not throwing Webster under the bus but he makes him sound like the greatest defender there is playing today! He's done nothing here but made himself look stupid.

Maybe they could ask O'Brien or Madine what they think of Webster and the manager. Asking Websley is about as much good as asking Suarez if he bites on purpose.

Just had a video call with Madine, he had bought into that craze of wearing glasses with no need to and asked him what I thought about Pressley's management skills.

He sais:

So after that I thought it would be best to get a second opinion, called up JOB (who had taken off his body tightening underwear and just had a big meal) and asked him what he thought about this article about Pressley and Webster.

He said:

So I thought I would ask somebody closer to home, I told Pressley's assistant that Pressley is a great manager who knows what he is doing, he said:

TBF to the lad who started this on FB and I think on here, he was asked on CWR Phone In to get in touch which he did .
Put his point across quite well I thought
My personal view, the less the players listen to the manager and play /express themselves the better, told a couple from the touchline on Monday

Did anyone read the article, or 'blog' as he refers to it as? Can't remember if I seen it posted on here. But I don't believe it was lies. I think it was an honest view from a fan who's growing tired of supporting CCFC, as a lot of us are! (Although wouldn't see me leaving after 28 minutes ).

Not sure why he's taken the hump against one article. Not exactly the worst thing that's been written in recent years is it?

And everything in it seemed like it was 'stating the obvious' to me. Players look very unsettled, unhappy, uncomfortable in the system being asked to play etc etc

"He's been the rock that many of our performances have been built on" !!!!!!!!!! Ok I must have missed something have we actually been playing well then.

Honestly if we stick with him we're down, I'm genuinely worried that they are actually going to trust him to bring in more players.
