AFTER watching Crewe Alex’s stunning 3-0 win at Coventry City on Tuesday night boss Steve Davis said: “We had to ride our luck at times and you need that against a good side with a partisan crowd behind them.
“Our game plan has worked for us. We set out to frustrate them and restrict them having opportunities, although they had a lot and we are realistic with the fact that it could have been different.
“Saying that we defended superbly well and made blocks and interceptions all night. There was some real grit and determination and I can only praise each and every one of them."
Fair enough, but a slight contradiction there isn't there. He says the game plan of restricting us having opportunities worked, but then says we had a lot of opportunities.
To me their game plan only worked because we didn't have our shooting boots on. Had we had have had our shooting boots on we would have scored 5. His plan then would clearly not have worked.
Maybe a little pedantic, but their plan only worked because we were wasteful in front of goal, not because of any plan of theirs. That and their keeper playing a blinder.
Unless they planned that of course.
