I thought he was a better player than he was given credit for, he was classed as lazy as he didn't run around like his arse was on fire like Andy Morrell (who fans seemed to love for this although when the ball came to him in front of goal he missed as he was tired). Stern would stand around and wait for the ball like Mick Quinn but when the ball was in the right areas he would score.

Over paying players and under the counter deals for management and associates is indeed what has trashed the football club...................not sure I believe all the figures sometimes bandied about though !

True that Dublin/McAllister were on 20K nearly 20 years ago! How much would that be nowadays. Also true that Richardson paid himself more than the Premier League chief exec, around 600K a year. Again, 20 years ago. That in combination with leaving HR, getting SISU, etc is what has ruined our club.

Indeed, I think those two were the tip of the iceberg as well. Under Strach/Rich we were paying silly money to players who hardly featured. Why the hell didn't SISU, who everyone maybe thought would be a bit more financially astute put a stop to it and start running the club properly only for us to then read about the silly money being paid to the likes of Kyle, Baker and David Bell ! One of the biggest scams of all time also had to be the alleged £20 k per week deal for a crocked Tim Sherwood !! Scandalous !

Got to blame SKY for most of that. That's why the big 6 can collar virtually All the young talent in the country, sorry WORLD.
We never complained when we were at the top table, but if you were a FOOTBALL fan, you had to sympathise for league 1 and 2 clubs. That's why I used to admire Dario Grady a
and the likes, who managed brilliantly and never won the accolades he should of.

Now we are feeding from that trough. PUSB

Do you have a source close to the club or something similar that makes your sure? If so, fair enough. I just struggle to believe it

To be fair I heard that Gary Deegan was on 8 grand a week, so Stern John probably on at least £80,000 a week based on that.

Danny Pugh still gets paid,, get that round your nelly! Contract up too soon, what an easy year wage packet that was!

Not bad value, to be honest.

Think he cost £200k or something. Factor in 18k a week and incentives, and that's a total expenditure of roughly £3m over three years. Decent for a 1-in-3 goalscorer in the Championship, even ten years ago.

I don't know whether clubs or players take out insurance policies against injury. At any normal employer he'd be on statutory pay by now, surely it's the same for a footballer

The most offensive thing is the assumption that Deegan is a 'gippo' (sic) because he's Irish.

Bothered. Just can't believe he was on 8k a week. Would have thought it would be closer to 2-3 max.

Can we call Eastwood a pikey? That's fact isn't it?

I liked Stern John, decent record and a good player.

Championship clubs overpaid players, we were one of them. If we ever get up again we'll do it again as well. That's football folks.

Just to clarify from my view of the world - with my Irish background there are only two comments that I take offence to: one is any pro IRA shit that I had to endure in the dark old days, the other is being labelled a "gypo" because of my background. Was Robbie Keane also a gypo, or was he exempt becasuse he was good?

cant remember which game it was at Highfield road, but someone floated a ball over to him down by the corner west terrace end.....and he trapped it with out even looking at the ball beat a couple of players and put a cross, unreal bit of skill. Talented but not a guy you could rely on.
