I can’t be the only one who thinks he’s gone backwards recently. I will never understand why he constantly stops mid run. He didn’t look bothered today. Personally think his head is in another place. I can’t be the only one surely?
Was brilliant middle of the season but has lost his spark.

Never thought he was as good as some on here thought.

Not saying he was bad, far from it, just thought he was a very solid player without being as amazing as some said.

I think Grimmer had a better season last year (not saying Grimmer is a better player, though).

Has been poor for some time now , had a brilliant early mid season and has dropped off pretty dramatically

Exactly so why bother playing him in games he clearly has no great desire to be in. I want players to play for that shirt and want it.

MR said that a few players are completely burned out. Sterling, Thomas and Bayliss in first full seasons having dropped form towards the end seem the most likely candidates.

I’d play some of the fringe players against Doncaster

Agree - He doesn't seem as threatening anymore on the ball anymore, seems like he's somehow lost a yard of pace.

Didn't look bothered today, but neither did the majority of the rest.

I've never seen him have a blinding game. Although I live up north. He's done well but failed to live up to expectations for me. Not one goal either for a player who can also play right wing? Not the be all but thought he'd get 1 at least

Just looks leggy after first full season. Not a surprise really, played pretty much every game.

Lacks pace when he has to defend but suddenly finds a bit when attacking

I think in fairness when you've got the unpredictability of Thomas in front of you it'd be hard to go forwards as much as you'd like as a right back.

However I don't like his attitude, apparently in a recent interview, he's said he cant wait to be playing championship football. No bond with the club, thinks he's better than he is

Right back position needs sorting, Don’t think there’s an answer within

He’s improved over the season but have never really got too excited. Can’t help but think he’d suit RWB more than RB though as seems better offensively?

I think as i have said before he is playing the game like hes thinking about what to buy with his next big wage cheque.. he should take a leaf out of Thomas book on hiw to give your all

Or even better someone like Willis. Graft at your trade, build on your potential, stay grounded and hardworking whilst loyal, become a very good player at your level whilst still being level headed. I can't help but feel like sterling might be a player full of potential, yet full of himself before he becomes anything, leading to his footballing demise

I think the trouble with Grimmer is down to pace. Susceptible to being turned too easily. However, going forward Grimmer is far , far more effective. Today Sterling was absolutely garbage, going through the motions, as several players were.

I really like him. Great touch, nice and tidy. I think he's less keen on beating his man and crossing into the box recently because it doesn't suit our strikers. He looks to retain possession and thats not always enough for some fans.

Will establish himself in a better team and be a good full back in the future just like Patrick Van Aanholt

At one point today he made a run and looked up to cross and it was Chaplin against a couple of man mountains in the box so he picked another option

How on earth do you get that impression from watching him play football for 90 mins per week?

I think he was so good in that middle part of the season that people think he's playing worse than he really is. He's looked a bit leggy in recent weeks but defensively he's still been solid, he just hasn't been contributing as much going forward. Wins a lot of free kicks too and very rarely gives a foul away in his own half. Wouldn't be surprised if we have to pay more of his wages if he doesn't play though.

He was very good in that sort of middle season part which followed after a shakey start.

For the last couple of months he has been a passenger though. Been very poor generally and if it wasn't for Grimmer leaving should have been dropped.

It's been a mixed season for him which is a shame because he has shown a lot of potential.

Clearly you're mistaking a 'bad attitude' for ambition. Why shouldn't he look forward to playing Championship football next season? After the season he's had he deserves a shot at plying his trade at a higher level. Plus why should he have a bond with the club when he isn't contracted to us?

As long as a loan player does a job and performs well I couldn't care less what he says about his future career, as that's his own right. Bizarre how you mistake that for a bad attitude. If he had such a bad attitude I can guarantee MR would've dropped him in a heartbeat.

Has anyone asked him if he's staying ? No.
A languid style that makes him look a bit lazy, but will do ok higher up.

After the season he's had?
He's blended into a league one side, not been a stand out achiever nor has he looked any better than most others we've got. How does that warrant a player expecting to play at the next level up? Granted I see your point on ambition and completely agree, but it's a case of I will, rather than I want to. More or less him saying I'm better than this level and will be playing higher next season

He’s looked significantly better than most others including the player he kept out the team all season

Agreed he looks a lot better than Grimmer. I just feel like he's too young, too inexperienced to be bearing that chip on his shoulder already without actually proving very much

In his first full season in the game he's looked head and shoulders above the likes of Mason, Brown, Grimmer McCallum. Granted he's had a shaky start and has tailed off, but I reiterate, it's his first full season in the game and that's to be expected. From his performances this season (especially in middle months of the campaign) I'd fully expect him to feature in the Championship next season. Each to their own as football will always split opinion but failing to understand how you believe he's not looked better than what we've got. Especially as he's kept Grimmer, who was a fan favourite i might add, out of the side all season.
