Staying In league 1 for another season? (5 Viewers)

Does anybody else think this might be a good thing if we don't go up? Very few of our players are championship standard so it would allow us to get some players in summer prefferably another 2 cb's a striker and a lw so we would then have a champ team in league 1 could get some momentum going. Our squad is also very young and it would give the youngsters another seasons worth of exp. this way we would have a stronger team in the championship and may be able to compete higher up in the championship and maybe god forbid do a Norwich/Southampton (unlikely but you never know). Anybody agree or am I deleuded.

I said this when we went down. We need a season or two at this level to rebuild and get over the past decade before trying again.

Will be a terrible thing if we don't go up.

Could be 3 Championship teams coming down who may all be amongst the very favourites to win League One. 3 more teams in competition.

We will probably lose more good players and replace with lesser.

Preston Scunthorpe and Sheffield it'd went down a couple seasons ago and only one of them has been good. I understand what your saying but they will lose their best players.

Exactly. Surely with our revenue dropping over the summer for this season, it will be even less for next season? We may of got more money as we were " bounceback" favourites possibly?

As I say, depends who comes down.

If it is 3 'big' teams they would all surely be favourites for the title.

Out of the 3 last year, Donny and us are challenging, only Pompey have fallen by the wayside, but then they have had a 10 pt penalty hanging around their necks all year.

The only plus side would be the chance to get rid of more of the dead wood and reshape the squad to get a better balance. Most relegated teams have taken 2-3 seasons to get back up.

We simply CANNOT afford to stay in this league. Don't be so deluded! I remember all the heady days of top flight football. I was there when we were promoted as champions to Division 1 (old prem). We were there for 34 great years. OK, many of those years were living on the edge, but that's what made the fun each season. Yet we still got to play against the all time great players that have graced our fabulous game! This is now our 12th year of accepting the shite we used to have to play in the early 1960's and previous. I want those top flight days back. Fcuk playing in this league any longer! I WANT OUT!!!!!
And if you think we'll have a better chance in this league next season, think again! It's what we've said every year since the "tumble from grace". I'm sick of this league!
Now stop accepting this crap and change attitudes!!

Leeds, Forest, Sheff Wed have spent longer than a season in this division in recent years. They've all had financial difficulties too and they got out eventually but I suppose they're bigger clubs than us.

Good idea? No way; but sadly it's what is destined...as our team just down have the right blend to see us though to the playoffs. Today was 'ground hog day' - it was the Crewe JPT home tie,the Yeovil, Carlisle, Shrewsbury ties all over again... Plenty of chances, not enough taken, throwing nearly 30 points away from winning positions....not scoring from over 60 consecutive corners....letting in set piece goals

I'm angry with the whole club,the players,the 4 managers, the board, Joy, Tim, Steve even f*cking Dan....as this was so nearly a great season and the wheels have utterly come off...

We had the easiest opportunity ever to get to Wembley
We had a great manager
We had the firepower to get us into the playoffs
We had a straight back up opportunity

Today it ended for me...I think even if we win 8/12 remaining games, we will finish outside the top 6.

Does anyone realistically believe the result would have been any different if Robins was still here? Personally, I think if he wanted to stay, we would have taken Crewe to bits - both times!

We have won just 5 home games all season ... 5!

Why would anyone believe that is suddenly going to change? Our defence isn't good enough. The only way the stat is going to change is if we strengthen our defence. To do that we need to sign players.

Let's face it, Edge and Cameron and Wood and Christie and Clarke are going to continue to make mistakes for the rest of the season.

We have 6 away games left. Think we have to win all them and then 2 at home.

It ain't going to happen. Not unless we bring in a brilliant manager who can weave some magic.

Yep, winning 8 out of 12 is a massive ask. Doesn't help that we've not managed to keep 6 cleansheets in 34 league games, not to mention that goals have dried up somewhat,

They'll only piss off when they've got the Ricoh on the cheap and sold it off at a profit. Once that happens, they'll get the best price they can for the club and we won't see them for dust.

Fair point ; I was convinced it would all come to ahead with relegation last season. Difference now is they're having their hand forced and that may well be the trigger.

Having said that, feel free to have a dig if I'm wrong a second time and we're having a similar conversation in twelve months time.

I can't believe some of you guys actually thought you would go straight back up...

We (Brentford) have spent most of our time in this division and I've seen loads of teams come in and out of here (L1), Coventry needs to sort it's off field issues before it can realistically think about promotion.

Charlton was one of the better teams I've seen promoted from here and it took them three seasons, a total clearout was needed for them to get success.

As a sidenote a lot of fans were saying this years League 1 would be one of the easiest/poorest as there wasn't a "Big" club being relegated (also meaning clubs dropping down were in financial trouble) ..Food for thought.

We have lost to far worse teams that Crewe at home with Robins in charge.

Exactly what I said in pre-season, Mr Bee! You just have to look at Southampton, Sheff Weds and Charlton's non-promotion seasons in this division to know that we were facing a tough acclimatisation.

Yeah the big difference in this league is you haven't got teams dropping down with 4 years worth of exorbitant parachute payments propping them up enabling them to spend £7-8m on 1 player
