The problem is likely to be wages. If you’re bringing in players on 100k+ a week, there’s going to be a massive divide in the dressing room, and that will be a team spirit problem.
I’d expect us to look for value in the lower reaches of Bundesliga/ligue 1/primera division, or champ players who *might* make the step up like Hughes, Azeez or Scienza.

There’s one other possibility to consider of course - Doug sells up. The club’s likely to be at peak value in the summer.

Will be interesting to see if Doug sells. A lot of people were convinced he had a 5 year plan and if that's the case this summer, if we go up, will certainly be the point to sell. Then it all depends who comes in, although just a luck that we'll be on the brink of WWIII and all the billionaires will be hiding in their bunkers!

If he stays don't see we have any option other than to break the wage structure. The players that have recently renewed will either be aware of potential PL wages of players coming in or have clauses in their new contracts with big pay rises. The fringe squad players will be happy to still have a job.

You can't build a Premier League squad based on not upsetting players who are unlikely to feature much, if at all.

I think the point of this thread is who would be a dream marquee signing so we are likely talking about someone worth over £20m (most promoted teams tend to make one or two of these). A lot of suggestions may seem a bit unreasonable but I’d imagine Sunderland fans would have laughed at the idea of signing Granit Xhaka last season.

Talking about the likes of Sydie Peck… he is shite in the Championship and I’ve seen many a game where he gets overran in the middle of the park

We will need at least four with substantial or decent Premier League experience.

Bringing in players from Europe may mean it takes too long for them to settle. Especially as the first season up is probably the hardest to stay up.

I think we will go down the Sunderland route and bring in players from overseas mostly. If we go up .

Agree, we need to buy players, but only those who will not break the bank if we go back down, and will be 100% be committed to getting us up again.

Probably about 25M tbh, as we'd have to seek a ready made replacement whether we went up or not as a lot of our play is based around our midfield?

Assuming we could get that sorted, I think last night's match shows we need to break the bank on bringing a striker in in the summer, probably about 30M if we go up, 12-15M if we don't.
