Disney have no shame they would put it in bog roll for the cash but what a cash cow 130 million to make and going to take over 5 billion inc merchandise, the money they paid Lucas looks small now.

Might have 'only' cost £130m to make but Disney had to pay £2.5bn to get the rights.

I can see why Disney got all over this. Just a bit of post production CGI here and there and then if you flip Princess Leia's hair 90 degrees she's suddenly got Mickey Mouse ears.

So they will send up with just the couple of billion then plus they will hammer this over the next few years

Yep, one a year now. Episode 8 is out 26 May 2017 and Episode 9 sometime in 2019. Then there's the spin offs. Rogue One is out next December and there's a Han Solo film in 2018 and a Boba Fett one in 2020. Can't imagine they're going to stop there.

You can have too much but the money making machine at Disney won't think that.

Went to see it this afternoon. Basically if you like Star Wars you'll be happy, if its not your kind of thing this won't change your mind.

Its a million times better than the 3 prequels.

Saw the film yesterday with my girlfriend (who's a far bigger star wars fan than I am,) in 3d at 9.45am too. The guy on the counter at vue said that they'd had four or five fully packed showings at the midnight screening and the same for last night. We had maybe 10? people in the showing, nearly all the VIP seats and then a few in the back row.

While I'm a bigger Trek fan than Wars, the film itself was pretty enjoyable. Loved how they made it feel older, very much a throwback to the 70's films. While I dislike Abrams purely for what he did to Trek, it does seem to fit very much so in the Wars films, so good on him.

There were a few niggles now I think about it, few forced lined etc, but the fact they had an amazing actress (Gwendoline Christie, Brennie of Tarth in GoT) playing Phasma and hardly used her was just unforgivable.

Still will be interesting to see the next one, I really hope they don't start to churn more each year and make it just Call of Duty but for films.

I've not been yet but there is no rush and to see that filming for the next has started is crazy, I also dislike Abrams don't know why but he seems to film things either in the dark or in a way that is all over the place and it gets confusing.

I took my lad on his 1st trip to the cinema when they released the remastered original trilogy.

He's treating me on Sunday to see the latest one.

Love Star Wars - it's fun, it's adventure, it's a time to switch off from all the crap for a couple of hours. But I'm a trekkie at heart, always have been. An ideal Xmas pressie for me would be a VIP ticket to the Vegas 50th Anniversary Convention. Oh well, watching us stuff Oldham will have to suffice.

I certainly get that they are popular and as I said before on here, I really liked the 2nd and 3rd films. I just don't understand the degree of hype. It just seems rather OTT to say the very least.

Think some people may take it far too seriously and should just go and enjoy the films rather than trying to become a Jedi knight in their real lives.

Saw this on TV last night and confused. Isn't the red bit supposed to be a weapon? So why would you make the guard a weapon? You'll never hit the opponent with it and are just running the risk of hurting your won hand.

There is hype because the first ones in the 70s were events, yes they were hyped but they were also anti-films, deliberately dusty busted looking planets, not glossy scifi. People queueing round the block on Sunday. They are fun. I saw all the original three as a youngster and loved them. Saw the prequels with my kids and tolerated them. The new one is more in keeping with the originals and back on form. Loved it. It's one of those things you get or don't get. Like I can't stand horror, betting ads, racing ... but others love them. Each to their own.
may the force be with you all, anyway.

Was undecided so have to go and watch again tomorrow when I get out of work.

I saw the prequels on VHS when I was about 4, and Phantom Menace came out about a year later - I am not ashamed to say I enjoy them all. I admit Phantom Menace is sub par but 2 is good and 3 is amazing. Favourite is Empire Strikes Back

They are and should be sent to the dustbins of this milky way and never be spoken of again.

Went to see the film today. Me and the kids are big Star Wars fans and loved it, took the missus, who hates films and particularly sci-fi's and she enjoyed it too.

It was much more in keeping with the original 3, with a decent story line, stunning effects and a fair few laughs.

I see they're releasing Independence Day 2 next year, another nice little earner for Jeff Goldblum.

Forget original ideas, safe 'remakes & franchises' are the order of the day.

The first film was dreadful though. Very good to the first hour and then a bag of dogs droppings for the remaining 4 and half hours.

I'm sure it wasn't that long, just seemed like it

I have to confess to having seen it many times, it seems to be on freeview TV all the time, I think I have a little addition issue there y'know.

I really wanted to like it, but the ending is ridiculous. I do still watch it occasionally, but can only watch about an hour of it and don't have the stomach for the other 6 and half hours.

Just been to see it and it felt a bit, "disneyfied" and politically correct. It definitely felt as though they are trying to reign in a new young audience (probably to sell toys etc to kids). Agree that the ending is ridiculous, imagine if you went up and stared at someone like that before giving them their Christmas present.

embarrassed to admit i went to the cinema 3 times over xmas to watch the force awakens

think i am qualified to critique it fully now lol

ive seen a few talking points on line, and of them all, theres not really one that wont or cant, or doesnt need explaining
it is quite clearly the start of disneystarwars universe, its what they bought it for so there we go.

almost every character will have a backstory, its jj abrhams ffs, think lost and you have his style of storytelling right there

things i didnt like are slim on the ground, the ending, although bolted on, has some hidden backstory in ityself, the disappointed way luke was looking etc, all will be reveald

the product placement still reeks of lucasfilm, random 3 second shots of aliens so that we get the action figure is annoying

the nods back to the previous films is waaaaay over the top, i get it, theyre creating nostalga ,but fucking hell it needed toning down, and hoping its not in any of the following films, cuz its done now
