Here is a response from Cllr Duggins' received today, to a quick letter I sent on Friday to Cov City Council ! Make your own minds up..... (and apologies if you live near to the sites I've suggested they were merely for debate! )

Dear Mr ***** [SBC]
Thank you for your e:mail.
I appreciate your input. In my view it is for the club to identify a parcel of land and I am sure they are familiar with the sites you have listed.
Once again thank you.
Best wishes
George

Leader of Coventry City Council

*******************************

Dear Councillors Duggins, Ridley and Lucas,
RE: - Coventry City Football Club - Exploring Stadium Options

I am writing about the issue regarding Coventry City’s stadium. I am aware of the developments this week and I not going to cast dispersion or blame parties on why Coventry City FC are in this disastrous predicament. I write merely as a Coventrian, now living in exile in the South East but with a parent, family and friends and family in the city.

I would like to kindly request that Coventry City Council take a proactive stance to at least try and help resolve this crisis. Therefore I think it would be very helpful and proactive step if Coventry City Council could at least provide the CCFC owners with a list of sites that could be looked at to help ascertain whether they are suitable for development for a new stadium or not.

I’d therefore like to suggest asking your Head Of Planning at Coventry City Council, to quickly explore the basic principles of some potential sites in the City. This would enable Coventry City Council to provide fair and open feedback to the Club owners and make it clear they are genuinely helping them explore the search for a suitable site for a new stadium.

In my professional view (as a public sector Planner/Urban Designer) the following sites should be provisionally assessed for suitability.

1. Butts Park Stadium
2. Land designated as commercial land at Whitely South
3. Land next to M6 - adjacent to Rolls Royce site
4. Land at Coventry Airport e.g. between Rowley Road and A45
5. Land West of Coundon Way (adjacent to Jaguar Land Rover Site)
6. King Henry VIII Playing fields off A45
7. Copsewood Grange Golf Club
8. Land adjacent to Alan Higgs Centre, Allard Way
9. Kirby Corner (nr University)
10. Land at Broadstreet Rugby Football Club – East of A46
11. Land west of Tile Hill Railway Station
12. Coundon Hall Park sports pitches
13. Redevelopment of Charter Ave/Torrington Ave Industrial Estate, Tile Hill
14. Former Woodlands School, Eastern Green
15. Land adj to Floyds Field Sports Ground, Tile Hill
16. The Village Golf Club (off A45) Allesley
17. Hearsall Golf Club (off A45)
18. Coventry Golf Club, Finham
19. Land at southern edge of Memorial Park (far corner featuring sports pitches and pitch and putt golf course)

Given the perilous nature of the Club’s existence, I thought I'd have a go at putting together this list quickly - I have not researched local plan policies, green belt, highways, flooding, ecology etc. so I appreciate they are very aspirational. Also I have not factored into account the political factors and local residents who obviously might not view some of these sites favourably. However at the very least these are a reasonable starting point for reviewing a range of sites that I think would be helpful in moving the dialogue on with CCFC.

My family have always been Coventry City fans dating back as far as the 1930’s and my young son is also a now a Coventry City fan so I am fully aware of how many people care passionately about the club.
I'm sure a majority of fans would support Coventry City Council making a concerted effort to explore these options and to encourage dialogue that might potentially help prevent the ongoing legal challenges continuing.

I do not particularly want a response to this email other than some assurance that you are proactively looking at sites to inform positive dialogue with the Football Club owners. I look forward to hearing from you in this respect.

Kind regards SBC

Interesting list to say the least you have just wiped out one of four golf courses !
But I’ll suggest two possible sites land adjacent to the Higgs at Allard Way or Hearsall Common, now I know common land is protected by antiquated laws as it is common land but I don’t think the bottom end where the fairground goes is. Near to Canley station and the motorway system plenty of parking in the nearby industrial estate and a reasonably walk from the city centre, plenty of boozers nearby too.

Duggins should just save a draft with f*** off that he can use for every repose. With the time that saves he might be able to attend vital meetings.

Well he could have replied with 2 words.

And the OP can f**k right off if he thinks the memorial park is suitable land.

Clearly the council has decided to not engage with anyone.

He's an arrogant c**t is Duggins. He didn't even suggest that the council would be willing to work with SISU should they find a suitable plot, even if he doesn't believe they will. Arrogant or thick as shite or both.

Its arrogance. When he got caught out trying to claim the condition for CCFC to stay was only ever supposed to be for 4 years he basically turned round and said it didn't matter as he could do what he wanted and nobody could do anything about it.

If the council workers job is anthing like mine, they would have to fill out a time record each week detailing what tasks they spent their time on.
And I'm guessing no-one has a category on their time record entitled 'Help CCFC find a stadium site'.
In any case, Coventry already has a football stadium and there is no way CCFC can afford to build another one.

Ah fair enough. But it seems like it’s well within 6 mile radius of city centre. With CV postcode. Previous stadium named Coventry stadium!

Ah well it’s too late now if planning been approved for housing. That was a big site.

When you actually use your brain how many of these sites could actually work.. Think about how youd get 15,000 people to the Alan Higgs and not cause absolute carnage. The traffic there is bad enough now and theres no way to get there other than by car

A lot of the edge of city sites mentioned are hardly fan favourable. That site near the Jag at Whitley how would 10000 get there, park etc same with the development near Rolls Royce, as I see it there’s a couple of possibilities next to Higgs Allard Way or fairground site at Hearsall Common unless we buy up existing industrial sites can’t see that.
