The wonderful St andrews pitch is turning into a mirror of the quagmire that we left at the Ricoh - Having two teams playing on it certainly has taken its toll -also noted by birmingham fans alike -

Fucking hell, its a bit bare in places but to compare it to the Ricoh pitch is a bit of an exaggeration dont you think?

Think it looks worse than it is, doesn’t cut up that much considering the amount of rain it’s had on it and at least two games a week currently.

No, the pitch at St Andrews is bare, the pitch at the ricoh was being pulled up by ground staff like a carpet and pulled flat again. The pitch at StAns is bad, the pitch at the ricoh is a serious injury waiting to happen.

Having just put the wasps match on the pitch from a distance looks ok in parts. Its not until you see close ups and its not flat and as soon as someone runs on it starts to churn up. The reason it looks ok in parts is due to length of grass compared to a football pitch.

Think you local park flatness. If you played football on it the ball would be so unpredictable

All I cared about was seeing that they were losing 0-10 at the bottom of the picture (I hate them)

That’s what many pitches were like in those days including Wembley.

I think you’ll find that picture is from the 1970 Cup Final at Wembley!

The pitch at Wembley was in such poor condition for the 1970 FA Cup Final because the Horse of the Year show had been staged there the week before. The Wembley game was a draw and because the pitch was so poor the replay was held at Old Trafford.

When i lived just up the road i supported Chelsea - great game can still do the team - on the Pic i think from the right Dempsey , Cooke , Webb , Hollins and chopper - for Leeds i see Alan Clarke far right 7 Peter Lorimer 9 Mick Jones

We are at that time of year when the weather is against the groundstaff. It will improve with the weather.

People should realise that if we go back to the Ricoh it will cause problems with our future Champions League campaigns.

UEFA rules for the Champions League say:

"For natural pitches, the height of the grass may not, in principle, exceed 30mm and the entire playing surface must be cut to the same height. The height of the cut should be the same for both the training sessions and the match. If deemed necessary by the referee or the UEFA match delegate, the home club may be requested to reduce the height of the grass for the match and training sessions."

The grass at the Ricoh is usually longer than 30mm as this suits the insects.

Just another reason for people to realise it's time to move on...
